Chambers County Golf Course
About
Towns of 2,000 residents tend to offer the ultimate in confidence-building golf, which is definitely the case here at Chambers County. Most of those courses are only 9-holers, however. This 1960s-style track, built by county engineer R.T. Pinchback, boasts the full 18, which lay out over 180 acres of heavily wooded wetlands on the east side of Galveston Bay.
Pinchback's design is mostly open, although there are a few holes with narrow, tree-lined fairways. Bunkering is minimal, and the rough is manageable if you miss the fairway. Water comes into play on over half the holes.
Two holes stand out on each side. No. 6 is the most beautiful: a 428-yard tester that requires two shots over water before reaching the green. No. 18 features one of those narrow fairways, tight at only 25 yards and intimidating because it's generally into the wind. The hole bends and you'll need a 250-yard drive to reach the corner.
Getting there : Take I-10 east from Houston and exit 812. Turn right, and the course is on the left down the road.

Under construction
I love this course but they are in the middle of renovation and it's in rough shape. Holes are backed up horribly
Clear your schedule….
The course became over crowded with people taking pictures and having no etiquette for faster players. 2.5 hours for 9 holes is a bit much.
Shut down
Front 9 is shut down for reconstruction. Not showing on golf now and when i called the proshop to confirm t-time they didn't mention the 9 closer.
Waited near a hour to t-off due to t-imez and people making the turn, being all player's player's q8 are playing the same 9 twice. I get it and understand the redo and it should be nice when complete, however, let people know
Course and golf now lacking communication
Course is in bad shape. They are redoing the front 9 so pace of play is ridiculously slow and they are not accounting space for the players turning. I actually called the course b4 making a t-time and they never mentioned the shutdown.
Construction
The course is only allowing play on the back 9 holes as the front 9 is under reconstruction. The staff said that they have repeatedly reported this to golf now but it is still not addressed on the site before making a tee time. So, it’s long wait on the first tee box with new players starting and groups coming off of 18 to play 10 again to play their second 9 holes. You can just imagine what pace of play is like. My tee time was noon and my finish time was after 5 and this was after several groups quit early. The staff was super friendly and apologetic
Construction. Front nine closed.
Would have been nice to have known. Didn't find out until we got there. They cram a full load of golfers into nine holes. Took 45 minutes to play two holes. We quit and went somewhere else.
Great course with beautiful scenery!
Great course with amazing value. Front 9 is under construction so had to play the back 9 2x. Still worth it! Had a great time.
Nice course
The staff is amazing they make you feel very welcome, course begins renovations on the front nine, so is a little slow if you are playing single but you always can joint with somebody else, tee boxes are soso greens and fairways are okay.
Municipal gem
First off I want to say I’m a high handicap golfer, I’ve played a ton of courses around the Houston and Baton Rouge area.
This course was outstanding for a municipal. Had a combination of grip it and rip it holes And tight shots that required more care. Not a ton of hazards outside of some water and trees. You can usually find your ball.
I played from the back tees because I do hit very long (driver over 320.) Which made things quite a bit easier. You still have to watch for trees. Hitting long brings water into play on several holes.
The fairways were fast and firm, not a ton of rough. The greens were magnificent. They have better greens than most of the courses I play. No you’re not going to roll off the greens if accidentally hit it too hard. But you don’t have to hammer it to get it to the hole either. They are responsive and I didn’t see hardly any ball marks. If you can put spin on your wedges, you will see the ball dance and spin.
I walked with a carry bag. Plenty of benches and water set out on the course. I did get stuck behind a 5some on the front. That was the only mildly annoying part. Quick little break at the turn and I was golden, never saw them again.
4 hours total for a round walking and honestly I took my time because there weren’t very many people there at that time of day. 2:30pm. You do have to finish your round by 6:30. I was on the 18th green at 6:28.
Everyone was friendly, even the golfers.
The pro shop had plenty of supplies, clubs, balls, concessions, ect.
I’ll definitely be going back.
Overall: challenging but not too challenging. Fun little course.
Getting better
I have been playing here off and on for years. They are taking care of the course better. They are going to redo the whole course soon.
One con is that they don't pair people up much. They should really pair people up at the very least who ever has same t-time tees off together.
Value for momey
Been playing for yrs. Seems in better condition but believe they also have water supply probs. Great value
Great Layout and Awesome Staff.
Showed up and Christy was super friendly and welcoming. I wish I lived down the street or they would rent out a tent or bed. Facilities are good and locals told me it was getting better. Be respectful to the course and patrons and they will treat you well.
I’m hooked, see you soon. Great experience and thank you.
Exceeded Expectations
This is one of the better golf courses in the golden triangle area. The staff were friendly and accommodations were excellent. I will be back!
