Chambers County Golf Course
About
Towns of 2,000 residents tend to offer the ultimate in confidence-building golf, which is definitely the case here at Chambers County. Most of those courses are only 9-holers, however. This 1960s-style track, built by county engineer R.T. Pinchback, boasts the full 18, which lay out over 180 acres of heavily wooded wetlands on the east side of Galveston Bay.
Pinchback's design is mostly open, although there are a few holes with narrow, tree-lined fairways. Bunkering is minimal, and the rough is manageable if you miss the fairway. Water comes into play on over half the holes.
Two holes stand out on each side. No. 6 is the most beautiful: a 428-yard tester that requires two shots over water before reaching the green. No. 18 features one of those narrow fairways, tight at only 25 yards and intimidating because it's generally into the wind. The hole bends and you'll need a 250-yard drive to reach the corner.
Getting there : Take I-10 east from Houston and exit 812. Turn right, and the course is on the left down the road.

Municipal gem
First off I want to say I’m a high handicap golfer, I’ve played a ton of courses around the Houston and Baton Rouge area.
This course was outstanding for a municipal. Had a combination of grip it and rip it holes And tight shots that required more care. Not a ton of hazards outside of some water and trees. You can usually find your ball.
I played from the back tees because I do hit very long (driver over 320.) Which made things quite a bit easier. You still have to watch for trees. Hitting long brings water into play on several holes.
The fairways were fast and firm, not a ton of rough. The greens were magnificent. They have better greens than most of the courses I play. No you’re not going to roll off the greens if accidentally hit it too hard. But you don’t have to hammer it to get it to the hole either. They are responsive and I didn’t see hardly any ball marks. If you can put spin on your wedges, you will see the ball dance and spin.
I walked with a carry bag. Plenty of benches and water set out on the course. I did get stuck behind a 5some on the front. That was the only mildly annoying part. Quick little break at the turn and I was golden, never saw them again.
4 hours total for a round walking and honestly I took my time because there weren’t very many people there at that time of day. 2:30pm. You do have to finish your round by 6:30. I was on the 18th green at 6:28.
Everyone was friendly, even the golfers.
The pro shop had plenty of supplies, clubs, balls, concessions, ect.
I’ll definitely be going back.
Overall: challenging but not too challenging. Fun little course.
Getting better
I have been playing here off and on for years. They are taking care of the course better. They are going to redo the whole course soon.
One con is that they don't pair people up much. They should really pair people up at the very least who ever has same t-time tees off together.
Value for momey
Been playing for yrs. Seems in better condition but believe they also have water supply probs. Great value
Great Layout and Awesome Staff.
Showed up and Christy was super friendly and welcoming. I wish I lived down the street or they would rent out a tent or bed. Facilities are good and locals told me it was getting better. Be respectful to the course and patrons and they will treat you well.
I’m hooked, see you soon. Great experience and thank you.
Exceeded Expectations
This is one of the better golf courses in the golden triangle area. The staff were friendly and accommodations were excellent. I will be back!
Slowww
Staff very friendly besides old guy in white Silverado. Course was in good shape besides the drainage was awful, cart path only. They don’t do tee times so they sent us (two sum) and four other groups to “wait in line” on the first tee. Pace took 5:45.
No beer, no range, practice green is turf.
Overall I’d give it a 2/5 if your driving from Houston.
Pleasantly surprised!
Friends who grew up playing here had always told me about this course. Honestly, for me it’s a bit of a drive (almost an hour) but there was a Hot Deal and recent good reviews so I decided to give it a try. Glad I did.
The course was a much better layout than I anticipated and the fairways and greens were in really good shape and rolled true. Greens were a little slower than I’m used to so I left a few putts short but that’s totally on me though.
I will definitely be playing here again.
Great layout!! Great value!! Course needs a little TLC. Staff is fantastic!!
Great course! Not so great welcome
The course itself? Not bad at all — decent layout, fair greens, and pace of play was smooth. But the experience was soured the second I stepped into the clubhouse.
The older gentleman at check-in must moonlight as a professional buzzkill. Rude, dismissive, and acted like I was bothering him by showing up. No greeting, no hospitality, just a whole lot of attitude. If you hate people that much, maybe don’t work the front desk?
Also, a note to management: field bathrooms aren’t just “suggestions” — they need attention. Unless you’re going for that gas station-in-the-woods aesthetic, give them a clean.
Bottom line: the course deserves better representation than what’s happening at check-in. It’s a fun course and I’ll be back.
Hidden gem
Great little track for the price…..no concessions / no problem because you can take your own beverages in a cooler….was told this place was a dump but someone has turned it around above & beyond…I SHALL RETURN 👍👍👍
This course was in excellent shape.
The course was in great shape. The fairways and greens was excellent.
It’s back
One of my favorite courses, loss the greens about a year ago. Since then they’ve recovered 100%. Greens were smooth fast and true. Much improved from a year ago.
Nice course
Staff was very friendly. Course is undergoing some improvements. Can’t wait to go back in about a month to see the progress.
