Royal Niagara Golf Club - Escarpment Course
About
The Escarpment Course is one of three nine-hole courses at Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club. The course is so named for its layout, which begins at the base of the Niagara Escarpment and snakes upwards to the top of the wooded Escarpment; afterwards it goes back downhill to the clubhouse. The golf course has been built to championship standards with carefully sculpted fairways and cavernous bunkers. There are also undulating greens and water hazards coming into play throughout. The challenging round is complemented by the scenic views provided by Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club's idyllic location between the Escarpment, the Bruce Trail and the Welland Canal

Nice place to play
Course conditions were quite excellent, they have improved dramatically since last year.
I always find the layout interesting.
All the staff were friendly and helpful.
The course was very enjoyable.
Negative note: range balls not provided.
Worth the money
Great course and in great shape great pro shop and the staff are super good I really enjoyed my round of golf and will be back foresure
Thanks. I will let Scott our new pro know about your experience.
Underated course
Was very windy on this day, but the course was in good condition & the staff very friendly & accommodating. The layout is quite good & there are challenges to be met. There is just something here that's preventing this from being a really good golf course & I just can't say what that might be after having played here a number of times. Will play here again.
Challenging Course
Challenging layout but if you play the Old Canal nine, forget about the 7th green......totally covered in goose droppings. Disgusting.
Thanks for the feedback. I will let our Greenskeeper know about the tee deck.
Pretty Course
Many interesting and challenging holes. Pretty scenery.
Thank you!
Ok for the $
Greens slow, traps terrible but ok for the $.
Could be a good to great little course if they spent some $.
Good course at a good price
We got a good deal $40 (plus tax and fee) for a Wed golf day. There were not many people there so we zipped around in 4 hours.
Course is in good condition.
It's a little tricky when the wind picks up.
Slow play, staff disorganization and it's a shame
Pace of play was painfully slow...almost 6 hrs to play 18. It's a shame because this course is a great design for all handicap levels.
Many bunkers need work, and necessitated free drops. The 9th hole on the old canal course does not reflect the par 3 as indicated on he card. (Par 4)
Staff need coaching on how to properly manage golfers expectations on directing to alternate 9's to speed up play.
I have noticed that a number of the kanefff group of courses seem to have issues with maintaining the quality but still seem to charge premium fees.
Iggy- you need to give the quality of the course and experience if you want to charge premium rates.
Otherwise, tear them down and build your upscale homes.
I will revisit and hopefully they have gotten their act together .
Mediocre
Course needs tlc . Some maintenance dollars or expertise. Course conditions have deteriorated since I last played 2 years ago.
Questio: does one only collect grass clippings on the fairways?
Greens were slow and did not run true.
Course has a sufficient degree of difficulty without poor conditions making place more difficult and frustrating.
Nice course layout, nice facilities, course condition disappointing.
The greens were slow and inconsistent from hole to the next. The bunkers had different sand from one to the next which was tricky. Wide drive landing areas and tight approaches. I suspect as the season goes on the course will improve. Staff were very friendly and helpful
good track of interesting holes
The price was right for what the course has...but it desperately needs a fusion of money to improve its appeal. The course tracking is great and shot value very good. I would not pay more to play it.
Very beautifull golf course
Course is a nicely layout and the excellent service
Amazing Golf in November
We have wanted to play this course for some time and it just hadn't worked out. We played on a cool, crisp Saturday in November (unbelievable that we could still get out then) and the course, while being prepared for closing, was in good shape. The greens had been aerated, and we were warned, so it was all good. Staff were very, very friendly and we will definitely plan on playing again next year when the course is in tip-top shape.
THIS COURSE VERY EASY JUST AVERAGE
NICE DAY STAFF OK NOT A PRETTY COURSE OR A LOT OF SAND TRAPS FLAT AND NOT AS GOOD AS THE REST OF THE COURSES IN THE NIAGARA REGION. I WOULD NOT GO BACK AGAIN EVEN THOUGH IT WAS ONLY $50.00. I THINK THIS IS A COURSE FOR BEGINERS.
charge up your carts!
The elderly couple I was paired with were great.
After 9 holes they got a new cart as the 1st was slowing down. Midway down our 10th fairway they had to return the 2nd cart for the same reason. We played 3 holes and I had to push their cart down the fairway - same reason only this time the cart would only crawl at a snails pace. I drove back 1 hole to borrow a cell phone from the group behind us and called for a new cart delivery.
We let 2 groups play through and needless to say, all this did not help my play.
4 carts in total.
What was ridiculous is that the man who gave the elderly couple the 3rd cart gave them bad attitude suggesting they took the wrong cart (2nd cart) when it was his coworker who gave them said cart.
the elderly man was gracious with the staff but I could tell he wasn't happy with how he was treaded/talked to.
tough but fair
Three golfers, all first timers here. Course in great shape and a real pleasure to play. Challenging, but not the type of course that eats up golf balls.
We had a blast and fully intend to play here again.
Great day at Royal Niagara scenic course
Great day had all that played today. The weather was a bit chilly a first but warmed up as the morning progressed. The greens were quick considering they were a bit furry. But the course was in beautiful condition for October. Enjoyed it with 3 birdies on the score card.
This course is well maintained
The course is in excellent condition. The staff where very friendly and helpful
COurse is in great shape
Unfortunately there was alot of water in most traps as we played after 3 days of heavy rain. Had a chance to play one trap and it would be good to play when they dry out as the sand is good
Old Canal
Pace of play was slow, they had every nine booked solid and so the crossovers were messed up. Stay away from the Old Canal course if you can, it is just a lot of trick golf, the other two nines are decent.
Thanks!
