Royal Niagara Golf Club - Old Canal Course
About
The Old Canal Course is one of three nine-hole courses at the Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club. Situated between the scenic Niagara Escarpment and the Bruce Trail, the Old Canal Course is named after the historic 120-year-old Welland Canal that borders it. The challenging layout was designed to championship standards, employing several tricky elements including carefully sculpted fairways, rolling greens, and king-size bunkers. True to its name, the golf course features plenty of water throughout. There are several dramatically placed tees perched on the edges of the canal, providing stunning scenery that is unmatched in the Niagara region. All three courses at Royal Niagara Golf & Country Club were built to the same high standards, but each one offers a unique set of challenges.

Excellent course, friendly staff
Course is well maintained, couple greens had a couple rough spots but nothing out of line. Staff were all really friendly, pace of play was excellent for a Sunday.
Conditions
Cart path only no problem as course is in better shape than the last 2years I’ve played it !
Royal Niagara
Course is challenging and has an interesting layout. Lots of elevated greens, blind shots and carries over hazards. The course needs to improve maintenance or adjust their cost. Many burnt out areas on the greens, uneven tee decks, and unexpected bounces from firm fairways.
Beware
This course was once a beautiful gem. The fairways are the only thing left that is kept up on the course. Greens were full of marks and divots. Tee boxes were dirt with little to no grass and very uneven. Make sure to drop your clubs off with your car here. Otherwise you will be walking 1/4 mile back to the parking lot, only to walk them back again. No carts can leave past the pro shop. I think for $90+ tee boxes and especially greens should be in fantastic shape. Definitely not the case here. Could have played eagle valley and saved money.

Course conditions
Aerated the greens in the july. Smack dab in the middle of the summer.
Tee boxes were in horrible condition.
Def the worst course condition I’ve played at that price point. Do yourself a favor and skip this course. Many more in the Niagara region
