Beautiful Old School Course
KGCC is a Stanley Thompson park course with a convenient location for golfers who live in Peterborough. It is easy to forget that you are right in the city. It is a nice challenging course that is well kept and for a private course it is accessible to the public.
Top 30 in Canada in my books!
I have played the National, St. Geroges, Islington, Essex, Coppinwood etc...This course should be in the top 30 in Canada. Its conditions and greens are impeccable. It is one of the few courses where technology can't overpower it. You have to think your way through it, and god luck finding a nice flat lie anywhere. I have absolutely no idea why it isn't ranked higher...maybe it is because of a lack of a new modern clubhouse...last time I checked, I play golf on the golf course and this course is stunning.
Top 100 Course in Canada without a doubt.
With adequate attention from accomplished golf writers and reviewers, Kawartha Golf and Country Club would be a perennial Top 100 course in Canada. Maturity and pristine conditions make it a must play for both the professional and weekend warrior. An all-time favourite.
Classic course in great shape
Kawartha Golf Course proves a course does not have to be 7000 yards to provide a fair and tough challenge. The mature trees and the outstanding bunker design help make Kawartha a stiff challenge for all levels. The proshop advice was to keep the ball below the hole and it is advice that should be heeded by all golfers, as the greens while small are very quick.. The service was very friendly and there were numerous cart girls making the rounds. This course was enjoyed by both the long and short hitters of the group. If you are in the area be sure to enjoy a day on a grand old golf course.
Best greens in the area!
Thank you for a wonderful golf experience . We have played here before, but this was the best condition yet.
Bring your best putting stroke.
I have been fortunate to have played on some world class courses and now I have found another one. Fairways are pristine and challenging, soft with good roll. The greens will test every fibre of your body and brain, receptive on the approach shot, fast and hard to read, just they way you want them. If your within two hours of this course it is worth the drive. Even if you are having a Ho hum game the scenery will offset your disappointment. I must mention the staff are friendly and courteous. A Stanley Thompson masterpiece.
Lacks variety of holes
It is a parkland style course so many of the holes look the same, not many hazards(1 pond, a couple creeks). Most holes are slightly uphill and have elevated greens so it plays a bit longer than it actually is. Very wide open holes with very little forest, however the rough is thick and tough to play out of so its best to stay on the fairway. The greens are in very good condition and have subtle challenging breaks. The fairways are decent however not cut as short as I expected (for a course ranked as "one of the best in Ontario"). The bunkers are very good, they are deep and challenging, but do have very soft sand. Overall I would say the course is decent and would play again if the price was right, but definitely not at full price. There are better, cheaper courses in the area.
A beautiful classic design golf course.
KGCC is a Stanley Thompson gem of a course. My only complaint is that not all of the players are showing it the respect it (and all courses!!) deserve. In far too many places, ball marks are not addressed, divots are not replaced, cigarette butts and garbage are tossed carelessly. Come on people, you can do better!!
a stanley Thompson course is always well laid out and has challenging greens.
by all means take this course in. the course design and old school charm and friendly staff as well as been centred right in Peterborough make it a very pleasant experience.
Very Nice
Great course friendly staff would play again course was fair tough perfect fast greens
Hidden Stanley Thompson Gem!
Nice mix of long and short holes tested every club in the bag. Options are available off the tee. Fast, challenging greens that are difficult to read the first time out. Classic, well bunkered and raised green complexes on shorter holes and larger more open ones on longer holes. We took a power cart for the second round of the day and it was a little expensive at $38 - more than the green fee. A really enjoyable course to play and not to be missed if you're in the Peterborough area. Located right off the main drag. Recommended.
Hidden jewl
The fairways were like carpet, the greens were fast, but the rough was deep enough to punish.an errant shot.
Be Careful of the Sand
I have played this course several times and always found it to be a good course but to make sure you play the tees that fit your capabilities of it will 'bite" you big time. I usually play around 6000yrs but played with three members from the white tee box at 6250 yrds. Some shots to the green required me to use metal woods to reach and the sand traps posed a real problem for my game.
I was told by members that the traps are usually watered most days and couldn't figure out why a course would do that. Other than the sand i did enjoy the course and would play it again.
Really nice, challenging course in great shape for fall conditions
Course has an excellent layout and is quite challenging. Greens are consistent and fast.
Underwhelming experience - will not return
Upon arriving at the course unwelcoming staff tried to force my girlfriend and I to pair up with a couple of guys we didn't know because we booked through Golfnow. It was a cool windy day and the course obviously wasn't busy, but for some reason two staff members insisted that we have to be paired up. It wasn't until I made it clear that we were either golfing alone or not golfing at all that they relented.
As for the course, the fairways were well maintained and the greens were perfect. The course is laid out nicely for play however, in terms of scenery it's kind of an ugly course.
Well kept greens and gardens.
Good value to golf now members. Quite pricey for walk on rates.
This course has quick greens.
Championship course, always a challenge. Always pristine.
Any efficent course would try to pair up twosomes. I don't have a problem with that.
My course would bid you farewell if you made it clear you did not want to be paired up. It's golf standard etiquette.
