Great hidden gem in the Town of Simcoe
Wow....what a beautiful course...dates back to 1895...a Stanley Thompson design....best golf course in the area.
Very nice course
It is a nine hole course which we played twice . It was very pretty to look at and nice to play . The hills did make some second shots tough but wen joyed that just the same . I would recommend this to anyone and will definitely return to play .
Fairly challenging course with a lot of elevation changes and tree lined holes. Would be even better if it was 18 holes since the extra tee boxes are not much different from the original ones on some holes. Great value and not very busy.
We practically had the course to ourselves
This course is laid out well making excellent use of the hilly terrain. It's a gem located right in town but you would never know it while golfing. For a Sunday afternoon, we felt like we were the only ones there. It's a shame that's it's only nine holes.
Worth the drive to Simcoe
The 9 hole Norfolk Golf and Racquets Club nestled in a quiet corner of beautiful Simcoe is a well-manicured hilly course featuring undulating strategically trapped greens that winds its way through majestic pines and oaks. It plays to par 34 with 4 challenging par 3s and a complimentary mix of 3 par 4s and 2 par 5s both of which feature blind fairway shots.
Although the 2 nines combined stretch to only 5200 yds, Norfolk is a moderately challenging layout which requires accuracy on approach shots and chips to avoid lengthy putts on the deceptively
fast greens some of which can require up to 3 different club selections on approach shots depending on pin locations. All holes feature well maintained greenside bunkers filled with fluffy golden sand which my playing partner and I visited all too frequently. Each tee box has a diagram of the hole and yardages are easily located on fairway placards and the plentiful sprinkler heads.
My sole criticism of the course is that it lacks a decent practise facility since there is only a smallish, flat practise putting green with a bunker situated some distance from the first tee. Oh yes, leave your tennis racket at home since the 3 courts are badly in need of re-surfacing.
The staff in both the pro shop and the stylish restaurant were most congenial and the food and beverage selections were excellent.
The Norfolk Golf and Racquets Club opened in 1895 was definitely worth the one hour drive from the Hamilton area for my playing companion and myself.
This course well laid out not too long great hallenge.
I would recommend will play again excellent price food reasonable.
Excellent course and condition. Needs more directional signs from greens to next tee and,at least, a minimum of distance markers
Great Course to Kill an Afternoon
I went with the President of my company and chatted strategy.
9-Holes was perfect for this. I'd recomenned to anyone. If i lived closer (not Hamilton) ... I'd be a regular Friday Golfer.
Interesting 9 hole layout
Very old style layout. Elevation changes and challenging par 3's make this difficult. Several blind shots hard unless you play here regularly.
loved it=would recommend it to everyone I know who is a golfer
Interesting little romp
We greatly enjoyed the golf at Norfolk G&C. The course was a bit of a hybrid between a Championship course and an Executive course. The trees and hills make it more than challenging enough for the average golfer. It is probably a little short for the true long hitters.
We were reported to the groundskeeper by a "too big for this pond" member for a minor and accidental golf cart incursion too close to a green. The groundskeeper handled it with class and a quiet word to "be careful; these guys are watching you".
just nine hole course
employee is friendly and good, course is normal,
but too many kids play,
just normal 9 holes c/c
Not a Walker's Course
A great course with plenty of challenging holes. I will play it again and reccommend it to friends.
Great value using golfnow. Well maintained. For a short course hardly saw other golfers due to the layout. Need to play it more to figure out some of the greens.
Beautiful, hills. friendly
We played the first 9 holes to figure out where to go. There are some blind holes and one hockey stick as described by one of the nicest members I have ever played with. The staff where friendly and accommodating. I can't say enough about this course, but you have to play it. I am going back as often as I can. It is just beautiful. GO PLAY!!
It was our first time on this golf course. Did not know it was 9 holes but it did not bother us as we did have a better understanding of the course on the back 9. There are a lot of blend spots and it is very hilly so we are glad we did ride.
Would go again. Green were pristine and not flat, which makes for challenging puts.....
Since it was raining off and on we almost had the course to ourselves so the pace of play was fantastic.
The course is in great shape and since it was our first time playing there we weren't sure what to expect so we were very pleasantly surprised with the layout and conditions.
Staff in the pro shop and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. We will definitely play there again.
