Started great ended extremely dissatisfied
Arrived with my son for a 10:06 tee time, about 30 minutes early. Check-in was smooth through GolfNow (shout-out for how easy that was), and we were able to get a cart right away. The course itself looked great and played well — the greens and bunkers in particular were in excellent condition. Compliments to the superintendent and grounds crew.
The starter was friendly and got us out right away behind a twosome walking. Unfortunately, one of the players was very slow, and while I didn’t mind, the Marshall insisted on pushing the group. This made things uncomfortable — he kept hovering and gesturing, even though we were simply paired up with them.
By the turn, the walkers left and play sped up. However, when we reached #10, the starter came rushing over asking “who are you?” as if we didn’t belong. I had to provide my name and tee time again, which was frustrating since I had booked and checked in properly. He eventually admitted he had forgotten to record our cart number.
On the positive side, the cart service was excellent — funny, engaging, and one of the best I’ve encountered.
After the round, we decided to grab food. This is where the day fell apart. My meal was prepared incorrectly despite giving specific instructions. When I asked for a refund instead of a re-fire (since we were pressed for time), they couldn’t process it back to my card. The manager apologized but said there was “nothing they could do.” In the end, I left paying for food I didn’t order and couldn’t eat.
Bottom Line
The course conditions were great, check-in was smooth, and staff on the beverage cart were fantastic. But the experience with the Marshall, the starter mix-up, and especially the restaurant’s refusal to refund a wrong order left a very sour taste. Buyer beware — the golf is good, but the overall service needs serious improvement.
Terrible Marshall
Took my son here. He’s 9. Second time ever at a course. I’ve played here a lot never had any memorable issues. We arrived and hit some balls at range first. Marshall came up and asked if we have paid to be on the grounds. Weird. Yes I’m on a cart so found that to be flag one. Showed him my receipt. Our tee time was 10:20. At this point it’s 9:55. We have about 10 balls left in basket. Tells us we need to go check in now. I said we will right after we hit these few balls. He snarled and drove away. When we got to starter he came back and asked if my son was playing. I said yes he was. He said where are his clubs. I said we put the couple clubs he had in my wife’s bag. Wasn’t sure if we were going to get just one cart since my guys little and that would make sense. Marshall said we needed to have a golf bag. Each player must have a bag. I kindly said I’ve never heard that rule. He said it’s a rule here. Than he went inside and got us a rental bag said this times free.. thanks I guess. So now we have to rent a second cart as we can’t fit 3 bags on one cart. I see where this is going. Than he followed to the first tee. Watched us tee off. When my son drove his ball which was very good for one of his first times. He drove it roughly 140 yards dead straight. Marshall told us nice shot. Thanks and we drove off to the ball. After he hit his second shot which took a small divot. He yelled over to replace the divot and told us if we were going to be chopping up the course maybe we should play elsewhere. We pulled around to the front. Got a refund on the round and won’t be back. You would think some encouragement should be shown to the young kids out there trying to learnt the game. Obviously this guy has lost touch. Several other courses around. Skip this one if your looking to bring your kids.
Port Dover
Good course to play. Nice people and staff. Happy with the price.
Long drive to nowhere. Super unfriendly.
Whatever would've been nice to say here was completely negated by the staff encounters. Staff attitude and customer service was a serious negative. Obviously, won't be back.
Port Dover
Got a chance to play Port Dover golf and country club for my first time. My friends and I enjoyed our round.
We where a tad off on our pace of play as we where unfamiliar with the course. Even at that, we had a twosome behind us, who we offered to let play through, but they where enjoying the round and said they wanted to keep playing without passing us.....
In fact they insisted that we stay in front of them!
That is rare ....
The service at the 19th hole was also very good as we had their pull pork sandwich with fries after the round .Delicious !😋
Good experience
Staff was friendly. Pace of play was a bit slow but when it's that hot out, I get it. Had a great time with my son and the twosome that we played with
