Good Course....Good Value
Enjoyed playing this course. Layout very good.
Par 3's are challenging. Played this course 3 times so far and intend to play it again.
Just as I remembered
Hadn't played it for 5 years. Still same course I remembered from back then. I even played better. Definitely a course to get out to. Even if this isn't your kind of course they have two other courses here to challenge anyone of all levels. Get out there and have fun.
Course is in Great Shape
I have played this course many times over the years and it seems to be getting much better. The fairways are in great condition and the pace of play is much improved over other timesI have played there. The course was fully booked but despite that we had no waiting at any of the holes and nobody waiting behind us. The round went pretty quickly as a result and we were done in under four hours which is a rare occurrence for me on this course. The newly renovated clubhouse is a nice change and I highly recommend the "Bacon N' Egger" burger after playing an early morning round.
Meh
Ok course. I found it challenging. No GPS in the cart, if you were to pay full price you would be very disappointed. You can get a lot better for the money.
Open fairways, slow greens,
It rained a lot the day before my round and drizzled for a couple of hours during the round leaving surprisingly few small waterlogged areas. Grass was well established and recently mowed but greens were cut quite long and played slow. Greens have interesting compound slopes requiring a keen eye to predict breaks and would play faster on a dryer day, i think. Clear placards of yardage at each tee but No graphic map. Flag can be seen from the tee on all but a few holes . would appreciate that graphic to estimate distance to hazards etc. Proshop staff were friendly and efficient. Gas carts were pretty ancient but mine performed well. Was hard get to the restrooms hidden inside a labyrinth of under renovation clubhouse!
Rolling Hills Revisit
Had not been to Rolling Hills in many years...actually since before the Firefighters owned it. Played Bethesda Grange which is really a slight reno to the old Championship course with the addition of a pond on 4, some new bunkering and a hole order change. Expected more out of the renovation. Rolling Hills is what its always been. An incredibly busy golf factory.
Your round wont be quick and conditions will be okay.
Nice track but...
Was a nice track, especially this time of year, but there seemed to be a lot of "on course lessons" taking place slowing play down, or crossing holes randomly. Things take place on this course I've never seen anywhere else.
Examples
7 people in a group, 5 playing, 2 just walking along
7th hole par 3, take your tee shots, and then before you can reach the green, a group of people have started practice chipping onto your green... While you are playing the hole!
Is a highly Asian populated course located just off the highway so it's very easy to get to
Great round in late fall
Considering it was Nov 15 in Southern Ontario, the course was in excellent condition. Fairways were in great shape. Greens had not been cut but had been rolled. There was a one hour frost delay, which was a good idea. Temperatures climbed into two-digit figures by late morning and there was no wind to speak of. Scoring conditions were good.
Fairway condition --- excellent
Staff is not friendly (pro shop)
I 'd like to distinguish fairway between ruffer
Pace of play
Course overall wasn't too bad in good condition good lay out the pace of play was rather slow marshals didn't seem too interested .
Slow would be an understatement
If you're in to playing 6 hour rounds, this is right up your alley.
Bethesda Grange
Enjoyed a round in perfect weather. Its been some time since I played the course and the improvements that Club Link has made were noticeable. Still a challenging and enjoyable round.
Good value but slow
Bethesda Grange is a fairly short course, but on the day that I went, it was extremely backed up due to a tournament. My round took 5 hours and on some holes there were 3-4 groups bunched up ahead of us and we waited about 20 minutes to tee off.
Lots of members walk this course which makes for a slower round. The holes are pretty tight together so sometimes felt a bit dangerous when teeing off.
Great course for all skill levels
This is my first time playing Bethesda, and I have to say I was pretty impressed. I heard that this was a former club links course and it definitely shows. The greens were in pristine condition as were the bunkers. The Marshal was very active and telling groups to speed up play. Though water only comes into play on one or two holes, it is still a fun and challenging course to play.
I keep going back
This is the 5th time I have played this course and it has always been in excellent condition. I have always been able to get a tee time and at an excellent rate. The course is challanging with a good mix of long and short holes, the only criticism I would have is starting with two par 5's in the first three holes.
Thank you for the positive feedback. Looking forward to having you out again!
Good course, good people
The course is in great shape and the staff is friendly. Pace of play can be slow sometimes but overall, not a real issue. I won't advise getting the earliest tee times though. Proshop guys don't start accepting payments before 745am and when you tee off at 8am, you'll be sharing the course with the maintenance crew who are all over the course. You'll be hitting shots with machines running right behind you. In a couple of holes, we had to wait for the grass trimmer do his thing. Tee off after 9am and you won't get your ball being run over by a machine!
Good Value
Good Value. Nice greens and fairways. Well kept bunkers. Members have issues playing their own ball and instead like to pick up balls that are not theirs. Extremely annoying and unsporting like. Especially when you've only missed the fairway by 10yds - it's not like these balls are on the other fairway. The staff can is ok but can be arrogant and rude. most them like to think they tons about golf but really, I believe, from hearing them talk about it, know nothing. Just do your job politely don't ruin it for other people.
Thanks and looking forward to having you back.
Most of the time, walking is actually faster...
