Great Day
Great day. Played with three of my sons and two friends.
Hidden Gem
This course is the best bang for the buck in Kansas.. Incredible layout. Challenging but fair.. Live in KC this was my second time to play and really appreciated the course more the second time around.. Not much for a club house.. They have the necessary no GPS on the carts.. Kind of out in the sticks but if you really truly love golf you will wanna come back again and again!!! How this course remains a bit of a secret is beyond me..
Tee boxes were rough on a few holes but other than that I have no complaints.. Incredible value free range balls as well..
Unique Golf Course
Cottonwood Hills is a beautiful course set in the woods. Accuracy is a must, course is designed tight with lots of obstacles to avoid. You rarely see other golfers due to the woods separating all the holes. I had a great time and relaxing day outside!
A Hidden Treasure
We have played this coarse twice this year and each time the coarse was in terrific condition. It's a long coarse with blind shots but it was fun. We would like to play it a few more times this year.
Bring your A game
The course is a well maintained golf course. Fairways and Greens were in very good shape. This course is for the 'better' players. There are way too many 'blind' shots to fairways and a couple of greens. Fairways are wide, but anything off the fairway is a lost ball. For the average golfer, I think it might be too hard. Greens are fairly large, but very undulating. There were a couple greens that were too severe for the 'average' golfer. The course ratings are fairly tough, after playing it I would concur. In order to play this course correctly, you would have to play about 10 times to learn where to hit your drives and lay ups to par 5s. Hope to play it again in the future.
Worth the trip
Cottonwood Hills is a somewhat unknown course about 10 miles east of Hutchinson, Kansas. Designed by Nick Faldo several years ago, the course closed due to financial issues and re-opened a couple years ago. If you like a challenge, this is your course. Five different tee boxes that can stretch out to be as much as anyone could want. Blind shots. Strategic shots. Big, fast, sloping greens. Hills, sand and water put a premium on shot making. It's a great course. Great views from every tee box. Surprisingly hilly for the middle of Kansas. They also have an open range . . . all the balls you want to hit as part of your fees. Very good practice area. Not much of a clubhouse and a very limited selection on food. But that is not much of a factor for me. I have played courses all over the country and this is one of the most challenging courses I have ever played. If you are looking for a memorable golf trip in the middle of Kansas for not much money, Cottonwood should definitely be on your list. If you live within 30 - 45 minutes of Buhler, Kansas, and you like a challenge when you play, this course has to become one of your regular stops.
