Not near what it once was
What was once the crown jewel of East Texas is now just a typical east Texas goat ranch. They are not paying attention to the details in mowing the greens, especially around the edges. Weeds around the fringe. No grass on several tee boxes like #17. Dead patches on most of the greens. Hardpan with no grass outside of the fairways. Fairways are in good shape for the most part. Appreciated the Marshal trying to keep the pace of play moving. The pros used to play pro-ams and mini-tour events here—those days are long gone.
After 30 years I came back to play
Very good but challenging golf course. I normally shoot around 80 but shot 90!! Fairways are very tight on most holes and I must have hit a tree off the tee 9 times. The Par 3’s are beautiful and somewhat easier. However the greens are undulated bringing 3 putts and hard chipping into play. The course is in pretty good shape for this time of year and we got a good hot deal. Played here 30 years ago when is was very private. Glad to see the course and neighborhood is still looking good. Hope to play again and improve my score!!
Awesome Experience
Played for the first time here in 3 hours. Course layout was nice and the greens rolled great. I had low expectations but they were all exceeded.
Still The Leader
Crown continues to be THE BEST golf course in East Texas...maybe all of Texas. The fairways are magnificent. The greens are fast and roll true. It's not a long course, but length isn't what will test your skill. Lots of water, lots of sand and lots of huge pine trees. If you've never played the Crown, you have denied yourself of one of the true golf experiences in Texas. Put this one on your bucket list.
East Texas Best
Course is in great shape to be this early in the year. They continue to redo the traps. When spring gets here, the course will really come around and playing Crown should be high on any avid golfer's bucket list.
Crown of East Texas
A hard winter did its damage, but the greens and fairways are coming around nicely; they are in very good condition. There are a few bare spots along the edges in the rough. A lot of trees have been cut, especially on #2, #7 and #9, to allow better sunlight to the greens and eliminate sparse grass spots. Crown Colony continues to be a "must play" in Texas.
Crown Jewel of East Texas
Tough but fair...rewarded for good shots and penalized for bad shots. Lots of water, sand and big trees. Some bare spots due to the hard winter, but coming around nicely. Continues to be a "must play" in Texas.
