Evergreen Golf Course

About
Evergreen Golf Course is an 18-hole, public course that is located west of Denver on the shore of Evergreen Lake. It is conveniently located only about 30 minutes from Denver. It is an affordable option that offers a good game. The golf course is widely known for its excellently manicured greens and also its immaculate maintenance. Water hazards come into play on only three holes but the entire course is also well-bunkered. The terrain is quite hilly and there are many dogleg fairways, both providing even more challenge. Evergreen Golf Course's natural beauty is made up of Ponderosa Pines that are sprinkled throughout and scenic mountain views from nearly every tee.

Mountain Municipal Golf
Evergreen is a throwback to another time in golf. The 100 year old classic is a pleasure to play as it works its way up and down the mountain and through the forest. This is a very short course by modern standards. Just over 5000 yards in total and the course doesn’t have many hazards or bunkers. I try to imagine what golf was like nearly 100 years ago when there was no such thing as a 300 yard drive, range finders, or custom fit golf clubs for amateurs. When Evergreen was designed I’m sure it was as tough as any course around, and it will still give you plenty of trouble if you don’t give it the respect it deserves.
Although this course is short, you better be able to keep the ball out of the forest or you will have a tough time. A dialed in approach game is critical at Evergreen. The greens are tiny, and sloped severely front back to front on most holes. You definitely want to keep your ball below the hole to avoid putting off of the green. Good luck figuring out which hills the ball breaks off of…I never found it.
Evergreen has a nice collection of five par 3s. They are mostly short, but a couple of them have severe drop-offs near the green that need to be avoided to have a chance at par. Get ready to play some blind shots, I counted 8, including the par 3 3rd which is totally blind and over a rock outcropping. Lots of the par 4s may be ‘drivable’ but most of the corridors are pretty tight up to the green so you gotta be precise to reach them from the tee.
My favorite hole on the course is the par 4 9th. A picturesque dogleg right which is one of the few par 4s where you can see the green from the tee. This hole calls for a big fade off the tee to a very narrow fairway and an approach to an even narrower green. Watch out right as there is a steep hill next to the cart path that will take your ball way out of position. This is the hole where we saw the herd of elk on the move too!
Currently the course has few amenities. The restaurant and bar are closed, and there was no beverage cart on Saturday when I played. There is no driving range at the course, so you just gotta stretch and hope for the best from your swing. The course is walkable, but there are a lot of hills. It’s great exercise! Pace of play was ok, due to the many blind shots there is a lot of driving up towards the hole to check if the green is clear, and many par 4s play similar to par 3s since they are definitely drivable. The round took about 4.5 hours on the weekend. Course conditions are pretty good for a mountain course.
Evergreen is a course that everyone should check out. It is so much different than anything we have on the front range. This is a mountain course for a reasonable price, we are lucky to have it as part of the Denver Municipal Golf rotation. This course will test your game and take you back to a time when golf course design and the sport was in a far different place. A true gem.

Awesome course every time.
Great people and awesome mountain course close to Denver. Plan ahead a little with buying food/drinks before you tee off and you’re good to go till the turn around. Enjoy

Not Awesome
There wasn’t any part of this course that was well kept, all the way down to the cart paths. Tee boxes replaced with mats. The tees that held grass were poorly kept and laid out in a way that was hard to identify which hole corresponded to which tee. A blind tee shot on a 115 yard par 3. And greens that didn’t roll, let alone well. Hard to identify which fairways your target. Best part, $40+ for the round “cart included” only to show up and be told it was walking only.

Fun and Quirky Mountain Course
This is a fun option if you are in Denver and want to head out the closest Mt course and have a round with great scenery, elk all over the place in the fall rutting and a course that is not your normal flat thing. It is shorter, the rating and slope are likely way too low for the challenge so, a good place to sandbag your handicap and have a fun day. Takes a couple trips to figure out where some of the holes are going and to learn that driver is not the best option sometimes but a fun day in the Mts!

Fun Mountain Course
Evergreen golf course is fun to play. If your looking to score low, good luck. If you decide to play here keep in mind that everything rolls towards the lake. The greens are rough and don't roll very true. This may sound like a poor review but it isn't.

Better condition later in season
I played here early in the season and the greens were in poor condition. I tried it again due to the proximity and it was much better. We’ve had a wet summer for Colorado which greatly helped the greens and fairways. Staff is friendly and works hard. Only complaint was a mower right behind us that should have been turned off or down when we were hitting in the fairway.

Too bad . I used to play this coarse 50 years ago
This coarse has gone to the Dogs Literally (liberally) I have never seen players bring their dogs to a coarse. I saw 3 carts with Dogs aboard and on the coarse more than once had barking dogs dostract play. There was a large 20+ heard of Elk on basically 3 holes, I had to forfiet a great shot to them on one of the three. A big bull was with them so It was unique to this coarse to see the spectacle. The greens are very small and hard to hold good shots. It's now off my bucket list . It is popular as it was fully booked. Just not my cup of tea.

A Must Play
This is an excellent 'mountain course'. It was a lot of fun to play and very beautiful.
Tight fairways . You must hit it straight.
Small Greens. You must not go long.
This course will be a must play the next time I visit Denver to play golf!
Lots of elevation changes. If you are going to walk, you must be in good shape.

richmorr1, thank you for your kind words! We hope to see you again at the course very soon for another 5-star experience. Thanks for choosing Evergreen Golf Course.
Not my favorite
Pretty rough conditions for this time of year. Chewed up tee boxes. A lot of blind tee shots. No cart girl. Beautiful views and nice staff though.

Corurse Needs Improvement:s
It is always fun to play this course. But, we left early today due to the pace of play. We had some players who thought they could hit really long. They really slowed us down. They were also rude with their music, Would not turn it down. And I think I saw you sell Bluetooth speakers. Golfers used to be polite. Not any more.
Your on course restroom is quite filthy. It needs updating.

Beautiful, But Tricky, Course
First time playing this little gem. Weather was perfect. Pace of play was a bit slow due to group ahead of us playing multiple balls and another group ahead being a five-some. Layout has numerous blind shots which I didn't like but would be different if you've played it before. Tee boxes were in bad shape but greens were mostly in good shape. All told, I loved the round and plan to play regularly.
