Westwood Shores Country Club
About
The track here along Lake Livingston weaves around eight man-made lakes, with holes that roll through skinny, pine-tree lined fairways routing to averaged-sized greens.
The par 5s stand out for their length, one on each side. No. 8 is ranked number two in terms of difficulty, but plays 590 yards, while the toughest hole is No. 12 at a mere 569 yards.
Getting there : From I-45 north, take Hwy. 19 towards Trinity. When you come to Hwy. 94, turn right drive down FM 356, then turn right again and drive 3 miles to the course. The course is on the left side.

Good time
The course is overall in good shape. The greens could use a good verticut and rolling but other than it's a fun layout and everyone couldn't have been nicer.
Worst Course I've ever played
When we arrived we had to enter through a security gate and I had high hopes for the course having never seen it before... after that it was all down hill the club house worker was extremely rude and could have cared less that we were trying to check in, after that we finally got on the course and that was truly the worse part, the tee boxes looked like a second cut of ruff, I hit my opening tee shot in the fairway and found my ball in standing water despite it not having rained in the prior week or more, the entire course was muddy and had standing water, one hole was ruled unplayable for the day because it was so muddy. However, in my opinion the worse part was that when I went to hit my approach shot I could not find a flag so I hit towards the middle of the green and assumed that the prior group had left it down.... but that was not the case the hole had no cup or flag on every hole it was simply a dirt hole in the ground! DO NOT WAIST YOUR MONEY TO PLAY HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT!!!
Nice
Doglegs. Distance is not necessary on many of the holes, but accuracy is a must. Course was in great shape. Fairways a little thin on greass and greens were slow but true. Staff was wonderful from beginning to end.
Hidden gem outside Houston
Hour and half from Houston airport lies a hidden gem on the north side of lake Livingston . If yur tired of muni pace of play in town take the drive up north. Plenty of dogleg holes and green in great shape. 19 th hole bar/ restaurant a total bonus as sandwiches are tasty and reasonably priced. Brie the bartender will welcome you with a smile and great small town service
Great value
Course is in great condition and the deal offered was amazing! Will defiantly be back many more rounds.
Westwood Shores
Course has a great, fun layout, but is still not in tip top shape. The homeowners association bought the course and are doing a lot on and around the clubhouse. Hopefully the course is next. It's in way better shape than before the buyout. Greens are still spotty, and need to be plugged, top dressed, and verticutted on a regular basis. The traps also need a lot of attention. This could be a great course. Hopefully they will get there.
I really nice detour
I was having trouble finding any hot deals for Saturday, so I expanded my search. This course was way out of the way for me, coming from Magnolia, so an hour and a half drive, but we were really surprised when we got there. It's a nice club, everything is very well maintained. Greens were a bit tough to read, and a bit slow, but very consistent, speed-wise. Pace was excellent. We got through the front in about 1:15, back in about 1:45. Staff (and everyone else) was super friendly.
I'm not sure if I will make the 90 minute drive for it again, but I'd definitely recommend this to anyone in the area.
Nice Layout
Well maintained course, pro was friendly.
Course was empty when I played, so can't judge pace of play.
No tricks, everything you don't want to hit into is right in front of you.
Greens were perfect, rolled nice.
Nicest course in that part of the state I've ever had a chance to play, by far.
Nice little country course
Greens needed a lot of work and there were no cart paths on half the course. The fairways were a little weedy. Overall, I thought it was worth the price.
Alot has changed!
Today was the first time I have played at Westwood Shores in several years. I had heard from a friend that they have made great improvements over the past couple of years. I had to see for myself. I decided since the weather was nice today and I was off of work why not check it out. I will tell you my friend was right. The course looks so much better than three years ago when I last played there. The pro shop actually has items that you might find useful when playing golf. The new 19th Hole Bar and Grill is great. I definitely will return to Westwood Shores and will be bringing friends. They even have a pro available for lessons (if you need them). Good work on the updates.
For the Love of Golf
For someone who has a love for golf, this is the perfect place to play! The course has undergone some changes under new management and I am beyond impressed at how well it looks now that extensive care has been put in to it. The location is easily accessible and an enjoyable place to visit.
The 19th Hole is also an extremely enjoyable dining experience for all. The food, pricing and service are unbeatable!
Great job to all the Westwood Shores and 19th Hole staff for making this a wonderful place to visit!
Will Definitely be coming back!!
This course has made amazing changes. I use to play this course when it was in really bad shape a couple of years ago. Now the Property Owners Association has taken over the course and clubhouse and they have made drastic changes! The course right now, looks as good as I've ever seen it. You would be amazed with it!
They have a new superintendent, Clayton Creel, that knows exactly what he is doing. They also hired a new Golf Professional, Alex Parker, that has made some big changes also. The pro shop actually looks like a pro shop now. The Pro has weekly scrambles, weekly putting competition, does instruction from beginners to advanced players, and also has tournament all through out the year.
They built a new 19th Hole Bar & Grill that is just fabulous! The changes that this place has made in the last 2 years are major!
This place is starting to look more and more like a country club everyday. I would highly recommend checking this place out.
Not good by any means
While the spring rains helped this course tremendously (I'm not sure there's much in course irrigation), Westwood Shores still leaves a lot to be desired.
The greens aren't good. At all. They're hard, have lots of bare spots and probably haven't been punched/aerated in who knows how long. There's even one green (#7) with grass that's totally different from the grass on any other green on the course.
The fairways are okay at best. They try to keep up the mowing and given the rainfall from the spring, they're not completely bare and likely won't be until summer. Unfortunately, there are plenty of weeds along the way and throughout all areas of the course (including up around greens).
I've played the course a number of times over the last handful of years and while it has gotten better (believe it or not), it's still not worth going out of you way to play. I absolutely wouldn't pay their normal fees, but if you can get it for $15-20, it's not a complete rip off as it's decent practice (until you reach the greens). Anything over $20 and I'd recommend the trip to Raven Nest in Huntsville.
In summation, Westwood isn't good. Don't pay more than $20 and even at that rate you'll likely feel ripped off.
Hidden gem in east texas
Couldn't be more impressed by this place. Challenging course that requires every shot in your bag. Nice homes and lakes that you weave through as you play. Will definitely be back.
