Great place to unplug on a golf course...
I live in Kingwood and have started using golfnow to start playing new cources around the area, and this place is a gem. The fairway's could have been in better condition, but the greens were quick and the speed of play was awesome. We tee'd off at 9:10 on a saturday morning, and were never rushed or had to wait on anybody. This place is nestled in the woods, and is very peaceful. The guy in the pro shop could have been a little nicer, but the marshall that was working the course on the day I played was outstanding, and gave a lot on insite on the course. I probably will be back out to this one.
It is challenging and stay away from the bushes.
I'm a 13 handicap and I find this course challenging in every aspect; specially 9 and 18. For some reason the ball does not go too far on these two holes. Stay away from the traps and bushes on the 17th hole; huge cotton mouths all over. The golf course management should alert golfers of that danger; but again you are in the woods. The settings are very nice once you pass the third hole. Drive it far and you will have better chances; leave it short, you are done. The greens are pretty fast and their elevations are killers for your handicap. I enjoy it a lot everytime I play it.
This course will surprize you! Try it
Had a great day with excellent weather and friends could've have panned it better! We took our time with nobody in front and nobody pushing us from behind. Nice to plat The Texas National
Great Price and Good Course
The course was in surprisingly good condition given the low price. The greens were in very good shape and the pace of play was extraordinary. One group in front and they allowed play through and it was smooth sailing.
This is a fun course, as in frustrating for my level of golf. It's absolutely worth the drive from my home in Houston.
You cannot beat the price for the type of course. The course has a variety of topography which can challenge your distance judgement. But, that's one of the great features of this course over more level courses. The greens are great. Your putt will go where you aim it.(sometimes that's a bad thing) Stay out of the rough and you'll enjoy yourself. Or, just get into the mind set that I have and amortize the number of strokes to the green fee and you'll find it's a very cheap course to play. I like the course even though it eats my lunch everytime I play it.
Hidden Gem of Texas
Texas National is a one of the hidden gems in East Texas. This course is challenging and gives each golfer the opportunity to play both easy and difficult shots. This course has come under new management, which is reinivesting back into course, which will make a good course great.
Beautiful and quite.
This course is long, beautiful and a wonderfuly quite get away from the hussel & bussel of big city living. Even in the subberbs of Houston, its hard to find this type of seclussion. I love it! The fairways are narrow and the greens fast. The condition was great when I was there accept for the deer tracks in the bunkers. LOL. I'll be back soon for another round.
Great value for money. Really enjoyable round of golf.
Staff at the club really friendly, from club pro to the ladies in the snack bar. Greens on course are excellent, ball runs true on medium paced grass. Fairways are the only weakness at the course, the long hot summer of last season resulted in little grass but this past season grass has come through, but it will take at least a year more (I believe) before the course is in tip top condition.
Back nine not very good as of now.
Front nine fairways and greens were about a 7 on a scale of 1-10. The back nine fairways had been arerated and were horrible. The clerk new mentioned that the work had been done. He was only interested in how much we paid to play.
good value for the money
A good course that allows golfer to use all of your clubs- good pace of play, most of the time. Good price for for a good course.
