Lyman Orchards is a popular Connecticut destination most known for the nearly 100 varieties of pick-your-own fruit but it also offers two championship 18-hole golf courses and a nine-hole course. One of the longer courses was designed by Gary Player and the other by Robert Trent Jones. Lyman Orchards' Player Course is a seemingly mild 6,600 yards from the tips but don't let the yardage fool you, this layout is a tough but fair test. There are over 30 bunkers strategically placed along the small greens and deciduous trees and beautiful white pines line the fairways. Routed through the orchards across gently rolling hills, the golf course is as scenic as it is challenging. The terrain provides the course with plenty of ups and downs, as well as great views, especially on the 11th and 13th holes.

Great course...

This course is well maintained and does challenge a good golfer. Because of the terrain, it is not easy to have a good course reading in terms of distance unless you have a GPS. But that makes the play very exciting... The 14th to the 17th tees are on a flatter surface but these fairways are still not the most forgiving ones and just when you thought that you are almost done, there is the uphill dog leg to the left 18th hole... Hmmmm FORE!

This course has a great layout for all levels of play

The staff was very friendly. The pace was slow because of the rain we received the last week, so we asked for a rain check for the back nine. Great course, friendly staff.

Patience and shot planning needed

Tough course with lots of blind shots. Bring extra balls.

Very nice course. Well maintained.

Fairly short course from the white tees and next time would play from the blues.

Overall High Quality

The Lyman Facility as a whole is one of the best in its area. It has two driving ranges and plenty of space to work on short game. At the bottom of the orchard is the Apple course, a 9 hole track good for working on irons. When your game is ready head to the top of the hill to try the Player or Jones championship course.

Leave the driver in the bag

The course (Player course) is short and requires good control with 3 wood or 5 wood from the back tees. The course is in good shape but the cups had grass growing over the lip all the way around which made putting difficult. Teed off at 4:30 and played 18-holes as twosome, so the pace was good. Overall a fun layout in pretty good condition, not too expensive, god place to spend an afternoon.

This Players Course designed by Gary Player was perfect.

The course has nice elevation changes as well as a great hilltop view. Another thing I enjoyed was having paved cart paths throughout.

Great Conditions, Beautiful Scenery

Lyman Orchards is a fantastic all-around course. Conditions are great for a public course and each hole comes with beautiful views and scenery.

Fairways are are in excellent shape and greens are immaculate. Although my play on 04/21/2013 was VERY slow that was the rare occasion it was slow, BUT the ranger was out there warning the guys to move along which doesn't happen often at most courses, so hats off to the staff for keeping every aspect of their course in shape!

Great course, awesome views (esp. on back 9)

Have played about 15 courses in the area, this one is the best! Have played here several times; friendly staff, great condition, incredible views especially on the 12th where you're in the apple orchard. Even when crowded you hardly see other players, great hole separation. The Jones course here is also great but costs more (3rd favorite of all I've played).

Very nice, but 5 hours is too long!

What a great course, and I highly recommend it. I am hoping that the only reason why it took so long is because it was on a Saturday. Have to play this on a weekday to see, but the course itself is really nice. Don't waste your $6 on the course book, in fact I cannot believe they charge for that, I mean really, you pay that much to play you would think they would not charge for it. Not to mention it was pretty much worthless anyway, as the starter tells you about the holes you need to be aware of.

Lyman is always a good choice.

Both courses are always in good shape, the layout is challenging and you need all your clubs. There are a couple of real tough holes from the blues that work you pretty hard for a bogey !!!
Great views and a full service proshop and bar/grill.

Amazing views!!

This course had a lot of hazards on the front 9 that made it very challenging. The back 9 had great views on a few holes with higher elevation and the holes were much more picturesque. Fun and exciting course to play overall.
