Bunker practice, White Sands National Monument Photo submitted by DYakimec on 03/01/2019
Great course, best in Las Cruces
Fantastic course year round. Great fairways and greens, friendly staff and good restaurant.
My favorite course in NM. Great deals on tee.off for the course.
Has a great practice facility as well.
Father & Son golf day
Had a great round of golf, the course is in fantastic condition and the greens were fast and hard to read. Never the less we really enjoyed it. The staff at Red Hawk was welcoming and friendly. We will definitely be back soon! Thank you Red Hawk
Good Shape
Finally worked on sand traps! Course in very nice condition. Not over watered ! Was to wet before. People are very friendly!!
Paid for one round of golf on GolfNow for $25 - at the clubhouse I redeemed a “rain check” for my dad who didn’t get a rain check the previous week when we had 11 holes each left on the round, we were given 1 rain check at the value of $30 - I redeem it, the “balance” is $10 on top of the single “rain check” we were given. So the round is valued at $40 for the tee time I booked through GolfNow for $25. So you have a pairing playing for $25, and the other playing on a rain check plus $10. That leaves no incentive to book a tee time through the course when you have a $15 difference for the same tee time. Not to mention the single rain check that wasn’t really a rain check for the washed rounds of two players. It’s their course, they make the rules & pricing. But I don’t have to play it and won’t. Rather give my money and word of mouth advertising to NMSU going forward.
Course went downhill
When arrived to course I paid for my 18 holes. When I went down to t off we were told no carts on the fairway.. If this is the case at least have pull carts available to use. Using a cart is not ideal.. next time just close the course. Pistaggios no longer at course, new menu is small, and portions are small.
Worth the drive from El Paso
Try to go here at least once a month. Good food, friendly staff and course is well maintained.
Red Hawk
The course was in good shape. The was a cart girl that made timely rounds. The weather was nice. The staff was great and the pace of play was good.
Meh
I usually love this course, but right now the conditions are awful. Hard packed bunkers with mud and standing water, fairways are atrocious, and tee boxes overgrown. The greens are punched right now and that’s a must so they get a pass. The course was front nine only so it was choked with players moving so slowly. Friendly staff like always so that’s a plus, but I’ll give it another month or so before I’m back to play. Hopefully all the issues are sorted out by then. You would think with all the rain at least the fairways would be lush, but no. Overall…..Meh
Right now come to practice at the range. Save your money and wait to play later.
What are the rakes for?
I really want to like this course but I can't. it's a nice layout and a challenging course but the bunkers are atrocious. they're hard packed dirt and pebbles, with grass and weeds growing all around. I can't imagine what the rates are poor because there's no chance anyone is raking these bunkers. overall the course is a great value for amateur golfers and I'll probably be back.
We’ve been playing Red Hawk for years. Compared to 5 years ago the course is in terrible shape. The sand traps are unplayable with weeds/goatheads in them, some with standing water so deep you can’t find your ball (mostly in the green side ones). If you’re going to pride yourself on having a large number of bunkers you need to take care of them. Lots of bare spots in the fairways and some in the rough. With the amount of rain we’ve had the course should look amazing (NMSU and Painted Dunes in EP do). Quite a few weeds around the green side bunkers too. Numerous greens have some dead spots, not sure if it was from cattle on the greens, hail, or players using wedges. Pace of play is unbearably slow most days. Marshals don’t do anything to speed it up. Players don’t seem to care about taking care of the course and are often seen driving their carts in the desert and on the greens. Mask mandate was put in place Friday and on Sunday not even the staff was wearing masks inside, and you know the governor will look for any reason to shut down golf again-let’s not give her one.
Challenging Desert Ball
While visiting family in El Paso, I was searching for a nice course to play. All the courses in El Paso looked dry and flat so I decided to make the 45 min drive to las cruses and play this course. The reviews I read here in Golfpass.com were really positive so I my expectations were above average.
I arrived just after sunrise as a walk on (single golfer) and had no problem getting started. It was my first time playing playing a desert course. Holy crap I did not expect to have such a hard time. The fairways were pristine. Greens looked good but were really slow (possibly due to morning dew?). The rough was punishing and the layout was challenging but not unbearable.
I would love to play this course again and highly recommend it to anyone in the area. If you have trouble hitting your driver straight I suggest playing chicken stick golf, or be prepared to lose a lot of golf balls.
