Beautiful course
Played for my first time on my birthday and fell in love
Sonoma Ranch
The course is in immaculate shape with the exception of the bunkers, those are like rocks. Staff are great and super nice will even help look for your ball with you, have friendly conversations. Range balls are horrible though. Overall great place especially for the price.
Bunkers
They have improved the course very much in the last year, All but the bunkers . They will be next.
Needs mowing.
Fairways are like rough. Lost 2 balls in the long grass.
GPS carts are annoying. Keep making you return to cart path.
Friday at Sonoma Ranch
As gorgeous as the day has twelfth was, this course did not disappoint estheticslly! Beautiful with scenic backdrops and well maintained. The conditions of the fairways was top notch and the surrounding grasses were well maintained as well. Challenging target holes with some others allowing room to open up for the long ballers. Some tricky elevation changes as well. The hole placement for the day was challenging for my skill level but not for the better putters. The greens themselves rolled true with plenty of movement. Many tee locations for all levels too. Sunset Grille was really satisfying and I noticed many people that were not golfing today coming to eat at lunchtime. If I retire here, I will live in this neighborhood!
Going downhill
This used to be a "Must play" when travelling through Las Cruces. Unfortunately they are not paying nearly enough attention to the course conditions. Tee boxes are scruffy and patchy, and there are all sorts of dead spots of grass all over the fairways and rough. The worst part is the sand traps which mostly have weeds growing in them and no sand whatsoever. Not playable. I can see that the owners are pouring their money into the facility at Red Hawk and it shows. Very disappointing. Won't be back soon.
Still sucky sandtraps!
Having not played here in a couple of years due to the pathetic course conditions, we thought we'd give it another shot. While the rest of the course showed vast improvement, the so called sandtraps are just as bad, if not worse! Most have vegetation growing in them and they are basically waste areas. Not sure when they last had any maintenance at all. They should be ashamed to charge green fees they do for a course in this condition!
Excellent course
Beautiful course well taken care of pace was perfect. Only one complaint which is that you can’t drive carts on any of the holes.
Not worth your time
Course is in terrible shape. Fairways barely have grass. When I was there it was cart path only. Nobody told me, not even the starter. It seems like nobody is taking ownership and wants to make the course better. Hopefully somebody decides to care over there.
Reevaluate pricing
I play this course frequently. I know they’re working on course conditions and understand why they’re doing what they’re doing with cart path only. The problem is they continue to charge full price with the course in condition that it is. This specific round they had also punched the greens a couple of days before. So on top of cart path only, the course being overgrown, the greens were also super sandy. They still charged full price. It’s no wonder there are so many tee times available. Would be acceptable if they discounted accordingly
USOpen Roigh
The course needs a few more weeks to get the fairways back in shape. Pace of play is about 30 minutes longer than usual due to extra long rough lining all fairways and around the greens. Most of the delays are due to trying to find your ball just off the cut faurwsy as the balls disappear in the overly long rough. If I’m qualifying for the US open I get it but I just want to be able to find a ball I hit down the middle that bounced into the excessive rough!! Bunkers need a lot of better sand… not the dense sand (concrete) and stones that are now in them. Fun course when it’s in a lot better shape!!
Not what it used to be
Course conditions are awful currently. I don’t think there is a worse course in the area. Something happened to most of the fairways, they are completely dry. Greens are acceptable. The pace of play was terrible. We were back to back to back with two groups in front of us. Marshal drove by several times not sure that he cared to improve the PoP though. Finally, about half the holes are cart path only so you need to walk a lot. I probably wouldn’t have minded all of that if the course was half the price. We won’t be going back in a while. There are plenty of other much better options in the area.
