Course has a good layout
Greens are in good shape but some fairways need some work

Great Routings!
Like RT Jones Quality Risk/Reward..
Some Tees were dirt & sand and some were lush green.
Some Bunkers were hideous, unkempt while others far less so.
Nice Staff and the biggest, tastiest hot dog you've ever had!
Loved the kindness all groups shown in helping each other locate errant shots. Labrador-sized Red Fox was an added picture opp.

Love this review! Very descriptive and accurate. The bunkers need to be renovated, and our infrastructure (irrigation/drainage) needs to be updated. Until that happens, our team will keep producing the best possible conditions. It takes a dedicated and talented superintendent and maintenance team to get the course to where it is. BTW - also agree with your comment on the staff and hot dogs. :)

Bunkers in poor shape
Very nice layout, but the bunkers were incredible shape were understandably slow because they just aerated the greens. Take care of these two issues and I will would recommend the course.
Hi there. Thanks for playing and for providing your review. The bunkers do need to be renovated. Our apologies for their current condition. The greens are almost completely healed, and the speed is picking up. We typically have some of the best public course greens in the area and we will be in great shape in just a couple of days. Course is trash
After a few years of ownership by Billy Casper, I expected this course to be better than it has been in recent years. It's was not. Tee boxes were destroyed, some of the fair ways we're like deserts and the greens had just been aerated with way too much sand. We got paired with another duo and it was their first time playing this course. Needless to say they won't be back, and neither will I.
Bryan, thanks for playing Ed Oliver and providing your feedback. Based on our age and infrastructure, summer is always a challenging time for maintaining turf. The conditions are improving year over year but that is hard to see with a snapshot. We will seed and recover in the fall when growing conditions are more favorable. Not sure what you mean about too much sand. If you don't use enough to completely fill in the holes, some of the benefits or aeration are lost. It may have seemed like a lot, but it was appropriate for our greens.

Aerated Greens
Paid full price to putt on aerated greens. No mention of this prior to booking.
Greetings. We apologize that you were not aware that our greens had been aerated. We made several posts to our social media platforms, added a line for online reservation confirmations, instructed the call center to mention for phone reservations and had our staff mention for any calls that came to the golf shop. Even though we tried to make sure everyone was notified, sometimes it doesn't happen.
Ranger
Ranger yelled at our group on our 16th hole if play telling us to speed up our pace at the 3hr mark of our rd. No one was in front or behind us. We finished in 3hr 30 mins which is considered fast play. Also the greens keepers were mowing the fairways on every hole as we tried to play and not one bunker was taken care of. We were disappointed overall with how we were treated.
Thanks for sharing your feedback. I checked with both our golf ops and maintenance teams regarding the interaction on the golf course. We cannot identify anyone on our staff that spoke with you on the course. I would appreciate it if you could call the course at 302-571-9041. Maybe I’m not picky
Have been a member here for last few years. Course has improved and feel it’s still a good value. Staff are always friendly. Becky the pro has helped my game a lot.. lately seem to be encouraging better pace of play, which was needed. May not be the best maintained in the area, but have always enjoyed playing here. If you want to spend more for a course in “ better” condition, ok . Sometimes basically have the course to myself. New carts this season are nice.

Worst 18 hole course in the area
Paid $57 at peak time on the weekend and the recent storms had the course in bad condition. There were obviously factors hurting course conditions that the staff couldn’t have done anything about but there were hardly any redeeming qualities. Besides the nice and quick greens, the fairways and rough were in pretty terrible shape. Fairways were so patchy and most tee boxes were in bad shape. Rates have gone up around the whole area but this course shouldn’t be following suit with their disappointing product. Won’t pay more than $40 to play here ever again.

courses in the area
Hi Colin, thank you for sharing your feedback with us. We're sorry to hear about your experience on the course. We appreciate your honesty. Being an older course, we face some challenges that make it especially difficult for us to keep the turf as consistent as we would like in the summer. The fact that we could not get out to mow because of the heavy rains did not help. We hope to have the opportunity to provide you with a better experience in the future.
Descent value
Played early morning, temp upper 70's, mid 80's when we finished. Course was very dry, therefor the fairways were patchy. Greens were in pretty good shape considering how dry every thing was. Staff was friendly and the maintenance guys turned their mowers off while we were hitting. Overall good value for the cost unlike Rock Manor, over priced.

State course
Unfortunately Delaware refuses to put money into one of its historic Courses. Fairways are very inconsistent. Greens are extremely slow. This course deserves so much better. This is a fun course but the conditions are very poor. I don’t want to review it so badly but it’s the right thing to do.
Hi Colin, thank you for sharing your feedback. We're sorry to hear about your experience at our course. Being an older course, we do have some unique maintenance challenges. Our team does a great job providing the best possible conditions given these challenges. You will find that our turf conditions will be much better once the extreme heat subsides. We hope you'll give us another chance this fall, if not sooner. BTW - the state does not own this course. It is leased from the city of Wilmington.

Fair play
Green were in amazing shape. Tee boxes roughed up. Sand traps need some attention. Great value. Not to difficult but you need to keep the ball in the tight fairways. Will most certainly go back.

The greens have healed nicely since being aerated and should be really good for the balance of the season.
The fairways are a work in progress. They are better but not yet where we want them to be. Working on it!
