Horrible Pace of Play
Tee time was 1:39pm, didn't get to tee off till almost 2pm. Pace of play was horrible, but usual for this course unfortunately. The group ahead of us had a 2 hole gap, had to call the front to get a ranger out for some help. Skipped hole #7 and still took over 2 and a half hours to play 8 holes. Pulled up to hole #10 with one group on the teebox, one in the fairway, 1 group on the green and another group waiting to tee off on #11. We left at the point. The ranger told us they had a scramble going on and that was the reason for the back up. Played many of scrambles and never seen such a lack of movement on the course.
Great value
Course needs some work but the greens were just about perfect for this time in the golf season
Great Value
Played this course for the 3rd time in the last 2weeks and had a great time. Course could use some sand in the sand traps, some TLC on a couple of the tee boxes, and is in desperate need of water. The greens are fantastic if you like fast greens, but players need to fix their ball marks +1.
Much improved
Much improved over a few years ago the greens are in good shape, the Fairways not bad. Some of a rough areas are suffering from lack of water. New carts, the bunkers need new sand. And the cart paths are rough, the transition from blacktop to dirt need some filling in of potholes.
Course has a good layout
Greens are in good shape but some fairways need some work
Hi. Thanks for playing and thanks for the review. We appreciate the 4 stars.
The greens have healed nicely since being aerated and should be really good for the balance of the season.
The fairways are a work in progress. They are better but not yet where we want them to be. Working on it!
Solid 3 of 5 Stars... Since 1901.
Wilmington Cpuntry Club,
Then Greehill,
Then Ed Porky Oliver..
Great Routings!
Like RT Jones Quality Risk/Reward..
Some Tees were dirt & sand and some were lush green.
Some Bunkers were hideous, unkempt while others far less so.
Nice Staff and the biggest, tastiest hot dog you've ever had!
Loved the kindness all groups shown in helping each other locate errant shots. Labrador-sized Red Fox was an added picture opp.
C'mon New Castle County, Water and Ferilize this Gem!
LOL...
Love this review! Very descriptive and accurate. The bunkers need to be renovated, and our infrastructure (irrigation/drainage) needs to be updated. Until that happens, our team will keep producing the best possible conditions. It takes a dedicated and talented superintendent and maintenance team to get the course to where it is. BTW - also agree with your comment on the staff and hot dogs. :)
Glenn, thanks for playing and thanks for the 5 stars! We greatly appreciate it.
Thanks for the 4 stars! Hope to see you again soon.
Bunkers in poor shape
Very nice layout, but the bunkers were incredible shape were understandably slow because they just aerated the greens. Take care of these two issues and I will would recommend the course.
Hi there. Thanks for playing and for providing your review. The bunkers do need to be renovated. Our apologies for their current condition. The greens are almost completely healed, and the speed is picking up. We typically have some of the best public course greens in the area and we will be in great shape in just a couple of days. See you again soon.
Course is trash
After a few years of ownership by Billy Casper, I expected this course to be better than it has been in recent years. It's was not. Tee boxes were destroyed, some of the fair ways we're like deserts and the greens had just been aerated with way too much sand. We got paired with another duo and it was their first time playing this course. Needless to say they won't be back, and neither will I.
Bryan, thanks for playing Ed Oliver and providing your feedback. Based on our age and infrastructure, summer is always a challenging time for maintaining turf. The conditions are improving year over year but that is hard to see with a snapshot. We will seed and recover in the fall when growing conditions are more favorable. Not sure what you mean about too much sand. If you don't use enough to completely fill in the holes, some of the benefits or aeration are lost. It may have seemed like a lot, but it was appropriate for our greens.
Thanks for playing Ed Oliver and rating us. We would appreciate it if you can let us know what we can do to earn a higher rating from you next time.
Sorry we missed the mark for you. Hope you give us another try.
