Golfer Reviews
Playing Puakea Golf Course
May be the best course in Kauai for the money. The fairway and greens were in great shape. Unfortuantly
It started raining and lighting so were only able to play 9 holes. Hope to play again this week. Very nice staff. Highly recommend.

Fair Test
Played this course twice while on vacation. It was in good condition, but the greens were a bit slow compared to what I am used to playing.
The course offers a fair test of golf, i.e., rewards for good shots and penalties for poor shots.
I'll definitely be back to play the course again.
Great value and mountain views
We got a great value price to play this course from Golf Now, but we were a little unsure if this would be one and done. The course was really very enjoyable. So much so, that we booked another tee time during our stay. The course was in very good condition. They are experimenting with another type of grass on two greens, which impacted the looks, but not the condition. There are amazing views of the Haupu and Hoary Head Mountain Ranges from every hole. The pro shop and dining are basically in trailers, so the first impression is a little under-impressive, but the course made up for that first impression. This was a very good find and we will add it to our play list for future trips.
Challenging but easy and fun course!
Me and husband liked this course! I always like it when they give the ladies a little more advantage when playing with the boys. Some of our municipal courses in Hawaii don't. The fairways were well trimmed, some of the hole placements were challenging, most of the greens were nice, some slow, but lots of bunkers around greens, lucky I managed to stay out of most of them! We will play this course again when we come back!! Aloha
Close to cruise port
Club rentals not good, but everything else about the course was good. Not busy.
Nice day of golf.
A good value if you don't book an early tee time at full price. Look for discounts. They have an agronomic problem on many greens that leaves them mottled and hard for true putts. Otherwise the course is quite playable and offers good challenges.
Great views and Friendly staff
This is the second time my husband and I have played this course. It is one of our favorites to hit when we take the 14 day cruise from Los Angeles to Hawaiian Islands and back. It is easily accessible and close to the cruise ship by taxi and the staff has always been exceptionally friendly on the course, pro shop and restaurant. They even gladly call a taxi for you to get back to the ship. Hope to play there again; it is a great value.
Best value on Kauai
Puakea was a very pleasant surprise. It starts next door to the Costco and the facilities are less than inspiring. But after the first hole, the quality of the course and the gorgeous views begin to win you over. The 6th and 13th are dramatic par 3's that would star anywhere. Good pace of play, mostly excellent fairways and bunkers and decent greens except the two where they are trying out experimental grass. If you are looking for a bargain on Kauai, this is a much better course than the over-rated Wailua Muni. No ocean views and the wind can be daunting, but well worth the $59 I paid.
Fun course to play!
Great course. My wife and I enjoyed playing and the staff was very friendly. The starter was very nice and had our rental clubs all ready to go with some good tips about the course. Hole 6 was a great par 3 hole!
We play here every visit!
We like Puakea, it is a fun course and the staff is really nice. The food (sandwich, to go) was good and priced right. We could have gotten the same rate without Golf Now...
They don't have any over-length clubs and that was a bit of a problem for me. I'll rent elsewhere next visit, but Puakea will be on my must play list.
Nice track
Nice course but the greens are not in the best of shape and slow.
this course is challeging
this course has some tough holes with narrow fairways, and long uphill holes.lots of nice scenery also.
Every hole is different on this interesting course
My wife and I really enjoy this course. The holes are interesting and fair with lots of challenges. The designers did a great job of using the topography, creating water features and working round the ravines. The bunkering is good. the course condition is not the greatest but is quite adequate. This year the grass on the tees is in trouble but the greens are OK if a little slow. Usually the speed of play is good and it is rarely crowded. The staff are helpful and very friendly. Great short game practice area and grass tees on the range.
Great value for a Hawaiian course
This course is a real gem, with interesting holes, meandering through some jungle yet close to the mountains and yet almost overlooking the harbor. On one hole we seemed near enough to a cruise ship funnel to be able to hit a wedge into it. Only complaint is the greens were very slow. Noontime greens fee was a good value.
