Fun, good value, challenging course with great mountain views.
Booked thru Golfnow.com and saved 20%. Not too many courses on the island with this quality and under $100.00. Staff very friendly and pace of play exceptional. The course was in great shape even after some rain.
Good value
Cool track. Some scenic holes, however no views of the ocean. Friendly staff and overall a good golf experience.
Good course, well bunkered
We enjoyed this course and found the design of the holes and the bunkering very challenging and interesting. This course will challenge any level of golfer but because of the bunkering might not be as enjoyable for a beginning golfer. Staff was very friendly and we thought this course was a very fair value. We will absolutely play again.
Great course; good value
Really enjoyed the round. Felt like Hawaii even with one hole just behind Costco. Three sets of tees- no senior tees, so some par fours were long for me. Excellent greens and practice areas. Went back and played again the next day. Highly recommend.
very crowded.
I would say a good course for the money and a warm-up course for the rest of Kauai.
A hidden GEM!
Very challenging course. The green have a lot of grain. Great value and great condition.
How to lose a customer!
I played this course on December 28th, booking through golfnow.com ($50 including cart). I found out that I was a single and my wife decided to come along to ride in the cart. The course charged me $30 for her to ride along. This is the highest cart fee I have ever been charged, including Pebble Beach. This is very poor customer service and it will be a long time before I return to this course.
Course wise - it runs through a residential development. It is not friendly for walking - lots of terrain between greens and tees. There are a number of challenging holes, but the greens are mostly slow (furry) and inconsistent - very frustrating.
Overall = Fair. There are better golf experiences on Kauai.
Decent Course, Good Value
Decent course in City of Lihue. Great value via Golf Now at only $55ea. Conditions satisfactory with some casual water due to recent (and in round) rains. Hole 6 is the highlight, 190 yard elevated tee box par 3, club down 2-3 irons. Overall, good value with no remarkable holes other than #6.
perfect way to spend a few hours relaxing
We had a great time on this beautiful and peaceful course. Great view of the green, lush mountains.
Best value in Kauai
Great course in great condition. I was paired with a twosome at the first tee time of 7:30, but requested from the started that I go off as a single. He let me go, and I finished in a little under 3 hours (and that includes a little extra work on some shots). Lucky I did, as I was finishing up 18, the coupe I was supposed to play with was just making the turn.
I love the layout and the challenge of many of the holes.
Puakea
staf was excellent on checkin and departure, course was in good shape and fair enough. Overall a nice experience.
Wide open - good starter course for your trip to Kauai
Great mountain views, but more of a meadow style course, which is not what you tend to expect on such a pretty Island. Course in good shape, but greens a little slower than what we are used to. Very few patrons on course that day so pace of paly was excellent!
This course is not worth the money.
We received a $44 rate from GolfNow and, once we started playing the course, we were glad that we had not paid any more. In short, despite the description and that the mountains are lovely, this is more like a municipal course. There is not a single ball washer along the course. The greens are insane; we were lucky to make a putt more than 18 inches from the hole. I actually like walking, but others may find that the greens are exceedingly far from the cart path. The course holes do vary nicely in length. We never needed to fill a divet; not sure if that was due to us or the grass. Beginning at hole nine, there were bizarre patches of blue "stuff" everywhere. Once we let a twosome play through, we basically had the course to ourselves. The checkin ladies and starter were exceedingly friendly. Bring your own food and drink; there is no food or drink cart, and the available sodas, alcohol, and food for sale are limited.
Not in good shape
After playing this course about 6 times on my different stays here in Kauai, this is the worst I have seen the course. The greens looked like they had some sort of disease and there were green spots all over them. They were also very bumpy and hard to keep putts on line. Would not go back to play this course while I am here this time.
Hidden Gem
For years we have passed this course up, electing the more popular and expensive "big 3" here on Kauai. What a mistake! This beautiful course is now permanently added to our must play list, especially factoring in the incredible "value for the money"! If you enjoy gorgeous scenery and some challenging shot making, Puakea is right up your alley.
The fairways are in good to excellent shape. The greens are below average with dead areas on some greens and in general a poor grass surface.
Much work is required on the greens. Kiahuna greens are very much better.
Par 3s are challenging from the Blues or Greens.
Fairways and greens in good shape although the greens are vey slow. Almost impossible to hit the putt hard enough uphill. But down hill with the grain is another story. Bunker sand consistent unless it is wet; then the sand is very heavy.
Great
So nice we are playing again. Very wide and forgiving fairways. Beautiful setting near the airport.
Great course at great price, thanks to Golfnow
Have pla he'd here am ny times a good test and staff is great
This course has it all!
Although there is no ocean view the course itself makes up for that by tremendous scenic vistas and lovely par three holes. Puakea is not difficult but challenging, the length is fair and the layout is very nice. This rates very high on our golf experience on Kaiwai.
