Something for all levels of play. Challenging enough for the seasoned player but many makable holes for less experienced golfers

Beautiful course in the hills of Portland. The views alone make it an ideal place to spend an afternoon. The course is well maintained but because of recent aeration putting was difficult. Looking forward to playing here again especially this fall.

Definitely Play Here

Quarry Ridge is a great place to play. The holes are varied from very easy to challenging. The course was in very good condition especially considering the heat and lack of rain the week before we played. Greens were in excellent shape. It would be nice to have a bottle of sand/seed on the carts for divots. Staff was great from the club house to on the course. Would definitely play here again.

Challenging, narrow and hilly

Quarry Ridge gets it's name from an old stone quarry it is built on. It is a beautiful course to play, especially in the fall, as the view of the nearby hills and valleys are just awesome.

Upon arriving I found the staff very friendly and we were able to start playing upon arrival. Golf carts are required on this course due to the long distances from some greens to the next tee. But also, carts are mandated due to the hilly nature of the course.

I normally play from the white tees, but not at this course. Several years ago the whites were moved up next to the red tees making the yardage from the whites (5213) much too short. The blues are shown as 6049 on and the black tees even further back at 6389.

All the holes are tree-lined and very narrow, requiring accurate tee shots. On many holes the edges of the fairways drop off into deep woods, over rock ledges, or into out-of-bounds areas. And, quite a few holes have side hills that need to be taken into account. Fortunately there are very few blind shots needed so course knowledge is not needed for hitting your next shot. But is needed to find the next tee box, so watch for the arrows and hole numbers on the cart paths.

There are several holes (3 & 6) where we had to wait for the group in front of us to hit their second shots as the route to the tee box from the previous green parallels the fairway for the next hole.

Thankfully there are not many bunkers on the course and only one waterhole, the par three 14th. Several greens, especially the 6th, is very difficult to read and is an optical illusion. The 18th is a great finishing hole but you don't want to go left as this is the old quarry with a steep drop-off and signs warning to stay away from it.

After a round the 19th hole is a welcome sight. The staff if friendly and the selection of spirits is very good as is the food.

I would highly recommend this course to any player of average or better ability. I do not feel the course is suited for beginner players.

Overall average experience

Course was in pretty decent shape. Rolling hills and outcroppings truly were beautiful. Pace of play left much to be desired as it took over 5 hours. Pace problem could have been mitigated if ranger would have broken up the 6-some in front of us before the 12th hole. Staff was average, guy working in pro shop had little to no clue what was going on. Would play again simply because of the layout.

Slow play - challenging course.

Bring lots of balls and have no plans for the rest of the day. Took 6 hours to play 18. On the back nine you are frequently driving toward the tee box from the fairway with the group or two in front of you hitting right at you. Not a beginner's course.

The views are incredible from tee box to green on every hole.

It was cart path only the day I played because of heavy rain the previous days. Even with the rains the course seemed to drain pretty well and was in great shape. This course is almost maintained as well as a private course A+. If a private course is a 10 Quarry Ridge is a 9 - 9 1/2 I will be back soon...

Pretty track with fine separation between fairways

Because the greens had recently been aerated, they weren't in the best of condition. The fairways and tee boxes were fine. I would play again, but not for a month or so.

Great day of golf

I played on a cold, windy day with one of my friends. The man working at the pro shop was very helpful explaining to my friend which jacket would be best for him, he also gave him a box of proV1 just for buying something. He was also very helpful in telling my friend and I (who have never played the course) how to get to the tees. All tee boxes were in good conditions. The course had several elevation changes that made it very fun.
The only downside was the greens were very sandy and looked a little dead. The greens also had small holes all over them (for drainage purposes I assume) but would alter some of my puts.

I will be returning to Quarry Ridge very soon to play again.

Challenging, but playable for average golfer.

Mid-April and the course is in excellent condition. Pro was extremely helpful and encouraging. Some holes/fairways were "mountainous" and retrieval of errant shots proved exhausting, but good play was most rewarding.

Good value

The flagsticks were put on mounds and hills of the greens. Tough placements. The greens were ridiculously quick !! They have never been quick like that in the past !!! When the ball hit the greens it would bounce off or roll off. Very difficult to stick a shot. Challenging in a way, but also frustrating.

A hidden gem

Quarry Ridge is quite a haul to get to if you don't live in Portland, Middletown, or one of the other surrounding towns. But it is a pleasant surprise seemingly in the middle of nowhere. The greens are super firm, roll fast, and are impeccable. The tee boxes and fairways are in good condition. And the layout is challenging and fun. Lots of narrow holes though so if you're a sprayer, you might want to keep the driver in the bag. The bar/restaurant has surprisingly good hot dogs too and are quick when you stop at the turn. Overall a great value and when "hot deals" are available, it's a no-brainer. Could go without the Boston Bruins stuff plastered in the lot and pro shop though!

Picturesque well maintained golfcourse.

Friendly staff, beautiful views, (especially on a late October day), a well kept course even battling the falling leaves and a course that makes you pay attention to shot placement. I could recommend this course to anyone.

Challenging and well maintained course but would recommend Portland over this course.

The course was certainly challenging. It was very tight and left marginal room for errors. I don't particularly care for blind holes and hidden traps. Made it difficult to find well hit balls that went over the hills and slowed play. A couple of the hoes I would consider unplayable. One particular was just insane with a rock ledge running straight down the fairway. If you hit to the right, you have chance, if you hit left, you're down in the wet lowlands. I recommend Portland over Quarry Ridge. I most likely will not play this course again as there are just too many courses in the area that are much nicer.
