Ok, but not great
Got a Hot deal on Golf Now, $12 + $4.69 fee. That was great, and for that price very hard to complain. Played 10:00 on a Wednesday. I was single and paired up with two younger golfers. They were pleasant and I enjoyed being paired with them. I often get Hot deals as a single and get paired, this is fine as I do not enjoy playing as a single only. However, doing this you never know who you will get paired with, and the company can make or break a round. First time I've been back to this course in probably 8-10 years. Very different from what I remember. Layout is ok, but I am not a big fan of not being able to use driver for forced layup. We played blue tees, I would have had less driver opportunities from the whites. As for the course, fairways were in pretty good shape. The rough, well I had a pretty good day off the tee so didn't find too much rough to give solid opinion. Didn't hit a bunker either, but they didn't have much sand but were somewhat groomed. Greens looked ok, maybe a few too many divots on some of the greens. But that is more the golfer than the course. I have noticed over the years that the cheaper the greens fees the less likely people tend to fill fairway divots or green pitch marks. Greens very slow, too slow. They seemed to roll ok, but tough hitting your line when you have to swing putter so hard to get to whole. Tee boxes were fair at best and some on the back nine were overgrown sparodic grass. Not great, especially hit irons for par 3's. It doesn't need to be fairway plush, but higher grass just isn't good. Carts were fine and mine was clean. Clubhouse was a bit dark and just kinda blah. They guy who checked me in wasn't rude, but not friendly or accommodating at all. He also was the person at the food counter, which had sign "grille closed" this was about noon when we went in for hot dog and drink. Hot dog was ok for $3. Not much of a drink selection, but did seem to have plenty of can beer choices. One of the guys I was paired with did get one Bud light can, think it was $3.50. Pace of play was reasonable for the entire round. Back nine was very fast, front nine was slow due to slow foursome in front of us at about hole #6. Luckily they went in for lunch and we got out ahead of them on 10. Smooth sailing from that point forward with no delays.
My overall impression is that it is just ok. It's about 45 travel for me, and for the Hot deal I got how could you go wrong? And I believe the regular weekday rate is $30 with cart. This is very reasonable. But, nothing there makes me have s burning desire to play again. Just too many nicer courses that are close that I would rather play. But if I find myself wanting to play and it's the only thing available, and $16, I'd drive down again. I'd recommend this course to others, it's an average course for a fair price and maybe you can find a great price on Golf Now.
Unique
Felt like I was playing an Irish course. Almost links with narrow, rolling fairways and lots of water. Greens were being aerated on back nine which took away from overall experience. Mist or rain the entire time. As I said, felt like I was playing in Ireland
Very nice course and a great rate
The course was in great shape and the pace was very easy going. I would recommend it.
lack of upkeep
This course was a nice course for the money at one point. They are not putting money back into the course, which is sad. I refuse to play out of any of their bunkers, as they are full rocks or have remained a pond for months now. They need to do something to upgrade their quality or they will start to lose more business. I have heard the same remarks time and time again while playing this course. The bridge that's between the second hole green and 6th hole tee box is sketchy to say the least and needs to be replaced, it's an accident waiting to happen. Other than that, the course is a decent course to play, fairly challenging and the greens and fairways seem to usually be in decent shape. If they spruce up the landscape, fix the bunkers, replace the bridges then they might be able to charge the prices that they do and I wont have to seek lower prices to play this course regularly without the feeling of getting robbed.
Garrison Lake
Good course, the front 9 and back 9 feels like two different courses.
good value
course was in good condition, greens were slow but for the price couldn't really expect much more
Jonathan landing
Course was in great shape. Fairways were nice and manicured, few holes were difficult and changeling . Over all course is very nice and fun to play
