The Rookery South

Course is in great condition and I loved the speed and condition of the greed

It's expensive to play the Rookery. It's mostly flat. But the layout is interesting. People are friendly. The club grill has some good food and drink.

Overall, I don't think it's worth the price unless you like to walk a 9 hole twilight round or have a deal with GolfPass.

Course was soggy from the rain, so it was cart path only. Played in under 4 hours. I will be back.

First the good: The course was in very good condition. The fairways and greens were in great shape. The not so good: This was the second time in a row that we did not complete the round due to slow play. This one was particularly aggravating. I knew we were in for a slow day when no carts were available 20 minutes before our tee time. We waited for a cart instead of warming up at the range. Ultimately, we teed off about 15 minutes late. Some tee boxes had two foursomes ahead of us waiting to go; there was always at least one foursome ahead waiting. After 13 holes and about four hours, we gave it up. Granted it was a beautiful Friday afternoon, but management knew of the problem and we did not see a single ranger or any effort to address the slow play. Management should review days where there are large groups and adjust tee times appropriately. I like the course and will try again, but never on a Friday or weekend.

Let’s start with this - we booked 18 holes knowing we would have just enough time to play all 18. We started 15-20 minutes late, they also had no carts available. The 1:39 tee time got carts at 1:55 (we were 2:15).

We finished the first hole and there was a group on the second green and two other groups on the tee box. This also happened again on the back 9 with their back-to back par 3’s.

Because of this we were not able to finish our round of golf. The ranger told us on the 10th tee “carts in at 6:40” (first time we were hearing this). Not sure why we were even offered 18 holes. The ranger than had to drive out and get groups all the way back to hole 15 off the course

My wife and I are trying to golf in all 50 states. Super disappointed with the mismanagement that we were not able to finish our round due to the course having too many players and no rangers on the course keeping pace of play.

Overall the course was in good shape, funky holes on the front. Back-to-back drivable par 4’s and on the back they have back-to-back par 3’s. Both of those situations hold up play.

Although the Rookery is far away from DE seashore and may not be as scenic as other golf courses in the area, the course plays very wide open and fair, and appeared largely in very good late-season shape. Some places on greens could use a bit of work but overall a very enjoyable round.
