Rating 74.7

Buffalo Run Golf Course is a locally acclaimed 18-hole, municipal course in Commerce City. The links-style layout covers 7,411 yards from its longest tees with a par of 72. Designed by Keith Foster, there are challenging elements such as water hazards and bunkers that come into play on the course. The wind creates difficulty on this golf course. Buffalo Run Golf Course's front nine is less challenging than the back nine but it builds up good practice for the second half of the game. One hole to note is the demanding 13th hole. It is a par-3 that has a well-placed bunker near the green.

Irrigation project affected conditions

This is a good course when the conditions are good. They are doing a 1st irrigation project since it opened. Thus, 2 holes were not available for play, bummer - holes #10 & 5. This makes for a bit of extra challenge for walkers. The layout always makes the course a challenge, but there are some spots in the grass and fairways...and even on some of the greens that are suboptimal, to be honest. Delicate shots near the greens are a bit extra challenging. One golfer in the group thought the bunkers had construction dirt, but it still felt like sand to me. Still, a nice day with pleasant company can make it worth it. You just can't be in the 18 holes or nothing mindset.

Links Course in the Wind

This is a good course that is thoughtfully laid out. It has a links style that plays into the the surroundings and takes advantage of the wind in the area. Several of the holes would change dramatically based on wind direction. The greens were good but not overly fast. I enjoyed the course and the facilities. I will play it again.

Super slow

Probably the slowest round I’ve ever played. No marshals on the course to keep up the pace of play. Hole 11 was none playable so you would think it wouldn’t be that bad… we were all wrong! Out of all the city courses I played on the weekend this season this one was by far the slowest. If there were rangers/marshals on the course this could have been avoided. Took us about 5hours and 20min to get through the round. With having to wait after each shot made it hard to find a grove and play well.. I probably won’t be playing this course again anytime soon.

Classic Fall golf in Colorado!

This SCOTLAND-like piece of land is fun to play and worth the rate. Regular rates are higher than the $45 I paid but that was due to some new irrigation work they are completing and appropriately, they dropped their rate down since we couldn't play #12. At full price, this course is well worth the drive to Henderson/Commerce City in the Reunion neighborhood. Talk about expansion, Reunion is massive and they will continue building this area out until 2025 at least. In the summer, this course plays longer and tough. In the Fall, you get to enjoy the layout, some Fall bounces and rolls and of course, the changing colors! Cheers!

Generally poor conditions

I played about 3 years prior. The course conditions were fair then and worse now. In fairness, the greens were smooth and quick with minimal bad spots. A staff member advised that the county has allocated funds to hopefully improve a course that could be a gem. But it’s far from that now. I’ll try again in a year or two. Although $40 sounds reasonable, better to spend another $20 or more for better course conditions.

Stop complaining

On the course website, the course says it’s under construction. Course is in good enough condition this late in the season. Great value for the money

They're Trying

Buffalo Run is a nicely-designed course with challenging bunkers, targeted fairways, and sloping greens. It's a fun place to play and recommended!

They've always struggled with maintenance issues though. There are lots of bare areas and the grass is lumpy. Hopefully, the new irrigation (currently being installed) and construction rollers will help.

Slow!

Tee sheet was half full and still took 4:45 to play. Not the first time. Manage the pace of play on your course better. We had 3 groups stacked on a box at one point. Course is in rough shape too. I live on the course and will go out of my way to play something other than Buffalo Run. Last minute rounds is it's only purpose for me now.

Low Cost - Low Quality

Let's start with the good points. The staff was very friendly and helpful in every area. The price was very good for a round with a cart. And the course layout is nice for a public course.

The 16th hole was not available as they were doing irrigation work. If this was mentione prior to signing up for the round, I did not see it. I felt like the course was not in good shape from tee to green. The greens were pretty good, but the fairways and rough needed water and grooming.

Once great course becoming run down

The course is certainly aware of issues and hopefully will be better next year. They are currently putting in a new irrigation on each hole. Thus, we played only 17 holes, they did give us a discount. What I was most concerned about the condition of the greens. Many if not most of the greens had very large dead spots. The gentleman we played with many of them are years old.

The course has always been known for its tough roughs, but I found them even tougher than I remember. We had a real tough time finding balls, we had to be right on top of them to find them. Then good luck hitting out of the rough. I wonder if this has something to do with the irrigation issues. If they can cut the roughs a bit lower, it will speed up pace of play and make the game a bit more enjoyable.

$36 rate

I played this course because the green fees were only $36 including a cart. I found out once I arrived at the course that the 15 th hole was closed because they were revamping the irrigation system. That’s why the greens fees were only $36. The course was in average shape but the greens were above average.

Rough Shape

I live in this community, and lately we have actively sought out other courses to play instead of Buffalo Run. Course was in pretty good condition when I moved to the area 4 years ago and has gradually gotten worse over time. A ton of ground under repair, the traps are washed out, fairways and greens in pour condition, etc. Hopefully the new irrigation project is a step in the right direction to revitalize the course.
