Best value/experience on the island, slow play
We are NOT military. We did the PPP program which meant filling out DBIDS forms online, printing out QR codes, calling the course to set up an appointment, bringing your Driver's License and SS card to the pass house, and getting a DBIDS card to give you access to the golf course. If you can follow the directions, you can save a bunch of money and get a scenic golf experience on Hawaii. We were in and out of the pass house within 10 minutes. Every other course on the island was $200+ for us to play, getting the passes and going onto the base saved us a bunch, since the round was only $69.
Tee times are every 8 minutes. We were late going out and waited ~20 minutes on hole 2. The round took 5+ hours to complete.
There are no frills here - no coolers, no cart GPS, it's meant to be an affordable course. Greens were fine, tee boxes had dry spots but were flat, fairways were cut short. Clubhouse was well stocked, there was an awesome flat driving range into the mountains. There is a nice shop at the turn that sells hot dogs, sandwiches, food + drink that wasn't expensive.
The front 9 is your typical slow muni course. Hole 5 is stupid - there's a mound that blocks all view of the hole, then the green is so heavily sloped that any ball near the pin rolls off. Hole 6 has maybe a 15 foot landing spot between the front bunker and the back hill. It's a really odd/frustrating/interesting layout that doesn't feel like it was designed by a golfer, as all the blind tee shots and poorly designed holes slow down pace of play.
Hole 7 is a fun elevated tee box, and hole 12 is a fun uphill with the green tucked back, but Hole 13 is reason you play this course and it's even more breathtaking when you are out there. The beach is beautiful, we saw several fighter jets taking off as we were hitting our tee shots. 13 is a long par 4 (475 yards) with wind. Hole 14 is another scenic hole but with a blind tee shot. The 15th has another blind tee shot, and the course oddly ends with a Par 3 18th.
I would play it again for the value, as you can play 3+ rounds here for the price of one round elsewhere, and the course gives you picturesque oceanfront holes that you don't get at the courses in Kapolei.

Best course I've played.
Holes 13 and 14 gave me the impression I was playing conditions similar to what the pros face at Pebble Beach - Pacific Ocean to the right, with winds coming off shore. Beautiful course, challenging elevation changes
Greens are dying - Feb 18
This was the 4th time I played the course at USMC Kaneohe. The staff is not friendly at all but expect no less at any military course, customer service is not a goal. The greens have been dying for many months but now several are dead and one of the par 3’s, #4 is now a temporary green in front of the dead green. Several more greens are basically sand and dirt and only certain parts of the green are usable. Not sure if this is a fungus or fertilizer treatment issue. Sad to see this happen to a great layout. No information is available on their web site or at the course on the problem area or possible solutions for this dilemma.
Gem of a military course
Back nine on the ocean are as dramatic as you can get. Beautiful finishing holes. As most military courses the price was right and it was certainly worthy of playing on a two week trip to Hawaii and four islands.
Poor mans Pebble Beach
Fantastic Billy Bell design, at least for the back nine that plays along the ocean and dunes. The front nine, not so special, playing mostly flat through filled marshland. Pace of play is very slow, as Kodak moments along the ocean holes, as well as fully booked tee sheets, slow things way down. Trade winds dominate, as in most Hawaiian courses.
Fabulous back 9; all tough in the wind
Lucky enough to link up with a former Naval Commander and get access to Kaneohe. Quite a busy course. Played on a very windy day. and only a couple of holes were with the wind, several against, but mostly a crosswind.- a two club crosswind! Front 9 was pretty basic, but the back 9 was super, with several holes right along the water. Great views, and very difficult shots with the crosswind. On a calm day, probably not overly challenging, but a good course with some stunning views. I'd like another crack at it!
" A Real Gem"
This place is incredible….from the facilities, staff, course, conditions, etc, etc, etc.
I played here every Saturday and many other days for the last 3 years. Truly a real treat. The club manager Todd M. and his team are second to none. The course is always in great shape from greens, to views, etc. Alway plays quite difficult because of the wind. Challenging but very fun….
Fun course with Great views!
Fun and challenging course right over the water. Beautiful surroundings and quick greens.
