Good times
This course has very nice holes, with wonderful scenery. Being a learning golfer I had lost a few balls, but I had a good time there. Will be going back.
Immaculate Greens
Couldn't have asked for a greater day, sunshine with a slight breeze. Course was in great shape, pace of play was good, only waited once or twice before teeing off and no one pressing behind us. Water hazards add beauty and challenge, especially #18!
Ironhorse is a good challenge
Few trees, but lots of tall thick grass. Several water hazards and some long holes. Course is well maintained and has a good design.
The course has numerous water hazzards
This course needs just a little work to become a diamond in the ruff. The fairways need attention as some are sparse and bare. The greens were average as were the sand traps. The design is good.
Great course.
Prices are always fair. The course if beautiful and well-kept. I love the practice/warm up facilities. They have a great driving range, chipping green, practice bunker, and putting green. Nice greens and tee boxes. ALWAYS love to play this course. Staff friendliness can vary from person to person though.
Nice course but aggravating pace of play which could have been avoided from the start.
The clubhouse facility, the staff and the course conditions were all above average even though it was a cart path only day. The pace of play was so very slow that we waited on every single shot. Initially another twosome was to join us but they brought an unexpected third player and the course staff had them tee off before us. This made absolutely no sense at all because we had long waits for every shot. I feel a little more thought and common sense should have been exercised by the staff.
Love to Play
It was the first time for my playing partner. He loved the course. It is very different than other courses, which makes it a treat to play. Cart paths need some attention, but the greens were excellent and for me that is the most demanding feature of the course.
Clubhouse is beautiful and well maintained.
First Time at Ironhorse
I found the course to be fun and challenging for the first time I got to play it. The greens are in great shape and adventurous. Can't wait to go back.
Very good course!
Nice course that I had heard about and finally got a chance to play. Challenging course that was in good condition with a very friendly staff! Looking forward to playing there again!
Amazing for the $
Without the golf now app my friends and I wouldn't been able to make it up to play this course. I'm very thankful that we got to. It was in very good shape and I hippie to make it back real soon.
Great Value
Great value, the layout was solid and greens were great. The fairways were in rough shape but tees and bunkers were in good condition. For the money this is a good choice, very nice clubhouse and an overal good bet for a round of golf. Don't expect the the fastest or most manicuredround course, but a good layout and fun round.
Nice course but terrible staff
My friend and I got a great deal at Ironhorse on golfnow.com. The course was very nice and maintained very well. However, the staff was very unfriendly and unprofessional. My buddy and I we're making the turn and a random foursome drove by and cut in front of us. I immediately went back to the club house and told the pro and he wanted no part of it. He asked me how much did you pay to play today. The guy was an a'hole and we will never return to Iron horse again.
best kept secret
Best bargain around very nice course and is on iit's way back from drought they are doing great job friendly staff
This course is very challenging!
great course to test your game in all facets! The price is very reasonable and the pace of play is good also. Full service course with range and cafe!
Fun course, great value
It's a fun course, with some testing risk/reward shots. A lot of water hazards, but not too tight off the tee. The par 3s are all quite difficult. The greens are in good shape, but some of the fairways are still recovering from last year's drought. The course is usually fairly empty, which makes it easy to zip around at a fast pace. It's a good value, and a nice escape from the overcrowded courses in Champaign.
Good public course, especially for the money
I have not played many public courses around the area (Fox Prairie, Meadowview), but this course was the best of the bunch. A links-style course, it brings water into play on several holes but is not overly punishing if you miss the fairway. My only complaint was the few (and inaccurate) yardage markers around the course - I hit my 150 club from beside the 150 mark on the cart path 20 yards over the green on one hole. There are several holes which could serve as signatures, and the course really brings every club into play at some point. Fantastic course for the price.
Fun, challenging, lots of water!
Great value for the price. Nice greens, and well kept. Bring extra balls, water is a major factor on over half of the holes.
My name is Scott Clevenger (Golf Course GM) I am the a'hole in this post.
The facts of the situation:
I was short with this customer due to his tone and attitude.
The group that cut them off started in front of them.
They made the turn in less than two hours on a weekend.
Then, they hit into the group ahead of them for the rest of the round. This group would have been more than willing to let them play thru but, after being hit into that was not going to happen.
Please bring a less entitled attitude to the golf course and treat people with respect, and you will get treated better as well.
A foursome does have the priority on the course and they due have the right to stop at the turn and get refreshments.
My point on what they paid, was for $23 dollars I do not believe that you own the golf course for the day.
At Ironhorse Golf Club we do not want any customer to go away unhappy or have a bad experience, but you can not meet unreasonable demands. This is not to say that we are perfect, but we would happily invite this kind of customer to not return.
Thank You
Scott Clevenger
