Very Good Layout - Very Poor Conditions
The course conditions are neither as bad as the previous reviewer stated nor that good. The greens were in good condition are rolled well. The fairways and tee boxes need some TLC.
The reason to play this course is the terrific layout and use of the elevation changes. The routing takes advantage of this on more than half of the holes and I was surprised on how much I enjoyed the course.
The course is worth a play if in the area.
Like Playing in Your Backyard
The best way to describe this course is it's like a regulation length par 3 course, in that there are no fairways, or at least any that you can distinguish from the rough. It's all wild bluegrass with clover and crabgrass and weeds like you would have in your yard at home. I know we've been deluged with rain recently, but there wasn't really an excuse for this; It really is like playing in your yard. The greens were mostly ok, though you can see where a different breed of grass wants to take them over. The greens are very small, and all are domed on the edges. They did roll true, to be fair.
On the positive side there is some elevation change, which you don't get very often on courses around here. There are a couple holes I liked, #6 in particular was a nice par 5, with a downhill tee shot and the creek bisecting what would be the fairway at another course. A few of the holes are a bit excessive in going uphill the last 100 yards or less, leading to blind shots to small greens. I was in the right side of the fairway on #8, about 100 yards out, yet stymied from the trees that protect a lake in front of the green. Tee boxes were no better than the fairways - long and just like the rough around it, except with markers on the ground. It's also hard to find the next tee sometimes, since there are no signs anywhere, nor is there a contiguous cart path.
All in all, you can do better than this, even in the area where there isn't much around. Tri-County is 3 miles down the road, and cheaper for a better experience (though it's not exactly great either).
