Deer Creek Golf Club

I moved here 10 years ago and this was the premiere course in Overland Park. Wow, what a difference 10 years makes. It’s in horrible, and I mean.... horrible condition. There an open pipe trench on 11 that almost an osha violation. We decided to not even play bunkers because there’s carpet in them? Even for $29 it’s not worth the money - with the cheaper prices also brings people who don’t exactly follow golf etiquette. We were hit into three times on one hole. Don’t play here until they get this place under control, it’s trash.

Deer Creek has really gone down hill since being taken over by Great Life. Most sand traps were un-playable, absurd amount of ball marks on greens (staff and players not interested in fixing them?), and the fairways are extremely average with lots of areas under repair. We didn't see a single marshal on course so pace of play was awful. To make matters worse the group behind started hitting into us. We also got paired up with two older guys that were really drunk and obnoxious, one of them threw his club on multiple occasions - which was terrible.

This is a real shame because the overall course layout and architecture is actually pretty good. There aren't any boring holes, but some are a little tricked out.

There are plenty of other great courses in the area - I would play those. In a pinch, I'd play here again and just hope for a better day.

I'm old school and I like yardage markers. Carts here don't have GPS and this course far and away has the fewest yardage markers of any course I've ever played. Literally had to eyeball my yardage over 75% of the time. Why is this a thing? Also, who is Deer Creek employing as head greenkeeper? I know--Covid and the heat--but other courses in the area seem to manage. It'll be a long time before I play here again which is a shame because the location is great and I love RTJ layouts because they tend to be challenging yet fair. Although, like any other, they need to be properly maintained .

I thought the tee boxes, fairways, and greens were in five star condition. Loved the layout of the course, and even the trip around the cart path in there super nice carts was a blast! The bunkers aren't groomed so I just raked me a little spot and played out just fine.

The course isn't in very good shape. Bunkers have bad sand or no sand, tee boxes are hard as a rock, cart path has a serious problem in one spot.

Course is in awful shape overall. I hadn’t played here in 5 years and figured the new ownership would have fixed things by now, what a shame because this used to be a spectacular course. Large sections of the course around the greens are unplayable. Bunkers are either flooded, washed out, growing weeds or full of gravel. It’d be easier to count how many bunkers were playable. Areas around the green don’t look like anyone has made an attempt to repair or improve them. Areas have piles of downed limbs and debris that would be simple to dispose of. In one spot where there is a concrete walkway an area that was “repaired” they simply placed bags of concrete on top of one another and got them wet... yes the “bag” is still there. Hole 10 someone can’t seem to fix the post on the tee boxes that is falling over from cracked concrete. On the bridge at hole 10, rather than fixing the concrete between the bridge and the cart path they laid wood down instead causing a big bump. Honestly, I won’t be coming back, this course isn’t work the $60 per round with no care put into it.

Guessing since it was bought by Golf Life they have sought to maximize profits. The greens and fairways were in pretty good condition, but the bunkers were embarrassing! Some were mud and hard compact dirt, and some had 3 feet of deep sand dumped in them. Overall I enjoyed the experience with my father, but probably won’t be back for the price.

Played Deer Creek for for first time in over a year and couldn’t believe the deterioration of such a classic course. Bunkers were predominantly ground under repair as they have declined to mud holes with weeds. Greens were in good shape, but balance of course lacked basic maintenance. I realize the current situation has greatly reduced revenue, but this appears to have been going on for a longer period of time. Hopefully, better times will lead to needed investment and if not, what a shame.

This course is well maintained. Nice fairways, greens were a little slow, but very consistent. This course is fairly difficult, gonna have to bring my A game next time.

Many years ago Deer Creek was one of the top public courses in the Metro. Ever since Great Life got its hands on it the course conditions have gone downhill drastically. The layout is still great but the rough is overgrown and the fairways are beat up. Not to mention most of the bunkers are filled with dirt.. hopefully Great Life will get it’s act together and start taking care of their courses that let remain public.

The course was in pretty good shape, a few holes had bald patches. I think they’re a little over priced.
