Charlie Vettiner Golf Course

This was an unexpected find for a municipal golf course and is a hidden gem. Course was built in two phases with the last phase or 9 holes by Dr. Michael Hurdzan.

The great terrain with several large elevation changes, beautiful creeks and woods, and modern greens make this a must play in the Louisville area.

Play here weekly! Great layout and challenge. The staff is wonderful and have lots of events for members of the men’s club

Play here quite often, a very convenient public course. Typically can just show up and get a tee time if playing in the afternoon, very cheap, and a testing layout.

The course conditions are very subject to the weather, during a week a dry wheat we the zoysia fairways became almost hitting off dirt. I also have played it in very good conditions. Greens always roll very smooth but slow and with little to no movement. Bunkers are in play shape, biggest problem is a lack of raking by customers.

Very nice layout, most holes have some feature that makes them unique. All par 5s are able to hold up pretty fairly because they have have doglegs and water hazards. The second is hard to reach because the approach is back uphill and the shot needs to carry a cluster of tallish trees. The ninth hole doglegs back right hard on the tee shot, so ones distance to always much less on the tee shot because it needs to fade around a Forrest of trees that comes right up to the fairway on the right side, easy place to lose a ball. 16 is definitely reachable with a good tee shot, but it is a forced carry over a creek down the hill. 18 is very tough to reach if you are not able to draw your driver down the center of the fairway. Pars 3s are just whatever barring the 7th, a difficult 220 downhill par 3 with water long. You have to be thinking from the first hole on, as a water ditch runs across the fairway in the middle of most players drive ranges. 8 is a fun short par 4 with water right on the tee ball, and an elevated green. The par 4 on the back are all difficult and interesting, particularly the 15th which plays over a pond on the approach. The course plays fairly long, but is only difficult because it is so easy to lose a golf ball as there is lots of water, and there is Forrest like tree clusters that line so many of the holes just gobbling up weren’t shots. This become frustrating if you keep losing balls, but it is a good test and good value.

This is a good course that is probably better for intermediate or advanced golfers looking for a

challenge and a good deal, especially during the of season. The rolling terrain, meandering creeks,, plentiful trees, and penalizing rough make you have to manage your shots. The zoysia fairways make for an interesting color reversal during the dormant months. The rating and slope indicate good challenges from blue (73.8/140) or white tees 71.9/135). Moist conditions can make it play longer than its 6934 yards. #8 is a fun but tough tee from the middle of a pond. #16 is a very picturesque hole. The staff is quite welcoming. I've been pleasantly surprised with this engaging public course.

I called them a week in advance in hopes of setting a tee time for Tuesday since I was in for business the employee said just come on in that they would get me in no issues. When I got there they had leagues going and could not accommodate me, they have these every Tuesday now clearly who I talked to just made a mistake and I get that can happen to anyone however this was a pretty solid hiccup in my plans.

Challenging course with deep rough... not for the beginner golfer. Fairways and greens in great shape with difficult rolling fairways that can leave tough lies.
