Elkhorn Valley has some of the best greens ever in a beautiful setting.
What a treat to play. The weather was perfect the day I played in early July. Played from the blue tees which were just over 6200 yards which seems short but quickly learned that accuracy is far more important than length off the tee. One foot off the fairway and your ball is gone. Hidden danger lurks everywhere, traps behind traps, dog legs, false fronts and long carries, 240 over water par 3. Once you reach the greens you are rewarded with perfection. Simply some of the best greens you could ever play. Silky smooth, quick but fair and soft enough to hold a good shot.
Off the beaten path but well worth the effort to get there
Challenging Course in Nice Condition
Played this on July 7th, and found the course in very good condition, with well manicured fairways, and smooth, medium speed greens. Definitely have to hit a straight ball to keep from getting beat up here.
Great Mountain Air
If you want to get away from it all, this is the place to go!!
This course has it all, Beautiful fairways and greens. over
Its very challenging, it offers many risk and reward shots, you don't want to many miss hits., or this course will jump up and bite you. over all a hidden Jewel...
This is a fun course to play.
I have been playing Elkhorn Valley since the mid 80's and have never had any major problems there. Yesterday, the pro shop employee was very friendly and the fairways and greens were in great shape. However, the bunkers had not had much attention and were hard and muddy. (t had not rained there for at least a week.) LIttle valleys had formed in the sand from the water runoff and those had not been raked by the staff. The other issue was ants. There were ants on several tee boxes and a few greens. It did make it a bit tough to hit the ball with the little critters crawling up our legs. Setting aside those two things, we still had fun playing.
We would highly recommend a trip to play this beautiful course.
Great Course
This is a great course. Take lots of balls with you. Fairways are wide but if you hit off line you are in the forest. Great greens, well maintained. Looking forward to playing again!!
Wild treat
This coarse is beautiful. I underestimated the distance to the coarse, so do your homework (ie. it's location). It is well worth the drive.
Beautiful and difficult course
Forget about fancy club house and the beer cart. This is a challenging gorgeous golf course to play golf. The price is right .
some great deals at golfnow.com, fantastic front 9, some weekend only warriors with clueless etiquette
I've played here every year for the last 25 years. The front 9 here is still one of my favorites. Back 9 is boring other than 3 holes(10, 11 and 14). Course conditions aren't what they used to be, but not bad. Always lose more than average balls here. Lots of HEAVY rough. Would play again if only for the front 9. It's worth trying once and decide for yourself. I'd only come back if you get a good deal here. Getting out to Elkhorn is a bit of a trek.
Fun..Fun and more Fun
This was the first time I've played this course, I moved back to Oregon April of 2012 from Los Angeles, and I've been trying to golf all the courses I can, this was a great course in a beautiful setting, Tony was so nice and made sure we were happy. I will be back for sure as this course didn't let me walk away with my head held high.
Do not let the big dog bark!
This course is beautiful and in excellent condition. I must caution the hackers, and yes, I am one, that it is unforgiving. This course has been cut out of the forest, and a missed fairway usually means a lost ball. You don't need to be a long hitter, but you should be a strong, accurate iron player. You really only should hit your driver maybe twice a round. You can play a fairway wood, hybrid, or long iron off every tee. The gold tee boxes are an excellent choice on some of the more intimidating holes.
Ideal senior course or someone with a short accurate game.
I spent all day looking for lost balls. Most holes are 200ish yards off the tee box to some sort of danger (sand, ditch, creek, dog leg, water). It was very challenging which really made me change how Iplayed. I hit a lot of irons from the tee box just to stay safe. Look out for big foot, I'm pretty sure he lives out there somewhere.
Great greens
It's a fun layout with plenty of challenge. Greens are shallow, well protected and in great shape. On a rainy Friday, we had the course to ourselves and had a blast.
Tight fairways and great scenery
Although the course isn't very long, it is one of the more challenging courses I've played. The scores can add up if you veer off the fairway. The front 9 has three Par 3's that require a carry over a revine or a pond. The guy I was playing with got to know the drop zones very well that day. Elkhorn's tag line is "Do you have enough balls to play Elkhorn" and that theme rang true with him. Great bang for the buck and we'll be playing there again.
Awesome course
One of the most beautiful spots in the Pacific NW. Course was in good shape, but had been aerated a couple weeks prior.
I recommend this course to everyone as I know the course has been taken over by a bank, and I am very concerned about its future. It would be such a shame to see it go back to forest. It is a bit of a drive to get there, but they have reduced rates somewhat, and it is well worth it !
Very interesting and challenginng
Weather is a key to enjoying this course, course can be unplayable in rainy weather.
Let the adventure begin!
Although maintenance could be better, Elkhorn is still one of my very favorites. It is away from the noisy cities and when you get there you just want to take in a deep breath of air and smile. Then the fun begins! This is a tough course with canyons, ponds, trees and brush to add to your golfing adventure. Be sure to take a few (a lot!) of extra balls and enjoy the day. Walkers will really appreciate the hike. It's a lot of fun and just an enjoyable place to play the game.
Well worth the drive from the Portland/Metro Area
This course is beautiful and well worth the 1.5 hour drive to the course. It is nestled in the Mountains between Salem and Detroit Lake. Each hole presents different challenges and the greens are well cared for. It is a semi-easy course to walk with some distance from Greens to the next tee. The people that work there have always been friendly and good-natured. Most of the par 3's are very challenging with either a revine between the tee and green or water and bunkers all around.
This course will test your game. The greens will challenge you.
This is a hidden jewel in the Willamette Valley. I always look forward to my rounds at Elkhorn Valley Golf Course. It is a challenge.
Aesthetically very pleasant
My friends and i always enjoy the beauty of the surroundings as well as the challenge of the course. Elkhorn is one of my favorite courses in Oregon!
