Do not book tee time course is gone
The course is no longer taken care of it and no one is there
Challenge accepted.
River Downs is a beautiful but difficult course in the Carroll County countryside. As an amateur/ beginner golfer I feel that if I can learn to play well here I will be able to play better at the other courses in my area. I accept the challenge, will you?
Too Difficult for me
It was a beautiful day and the course was practically empty. I only attempted nine holes but didn't actually finish all nine. There were a number of holes that this 75 year old golfer could not negotiate. The greens and the fairways were fine but the layout was impossible for me. I will not play or recommend this course for anyone of my age and ability. The course was not handicap friendly.
It just gets worse and worse!
Everything is chewed up! Grass clippings all over the place which is weird because it doesn't look mowed because you just lose your balls soooo easily in the massive patchs that were obviously ignored or huge balls of clippings left in the fairway, well i mean kinda of faiways because its not much difference than the rough. Crab grass and ball marks all over the soggy greens.
I had hopes this place would turn around but its worse everytime i go.
Today was my last tee time smfh. Its just sucks!
River downs is a must!
One of the most difficult tracks in Maryland. Tight tree lined fairways with varying elevations and undulations. Greens are usually a touch slower than other courses in the area
Challenging and fun course
I don’t know why people complain so much about this course. It was a very fun and challenging course. The condition was fine, not fantastic but have paid a lot more for courses in worse condition.
Overall, the staff I interacted with were very friendly and engaging, gorgeous course, and very fun to play/ great pace. The cart path is very very rough, so don’t come here if you have a bad back. And the carts are in ok condition, but for what I paid for this course I consider it a steal and was super happy.
Amazing staff
The course has an amazing staff. The club house is in great shape. But the course is in terrible condition, from tee box to greens. Watch how much you spend on a round.
Don't book the first tee time
Don't worry about booking the first tee time as they will just let "regulars" who didn't book a tee time go in front of you. Oh not one but 2 groups. Also staff member showed up 5 mins before the tee time and terrible attitude as well as no regret for saying she would get the "regulars" out. No carts were out, and staffer handed a "regular" a key to grab carts for them to start. Course was not in great shape, no water, needed mowing, and overall terrible experience. Will not be playing there again
Needs work
The cart path is so bad. There was a group that backed up 4 other groups on 1 hole. Wish they had an employee on the coarse but they did not. They only had 1 person working the entire coarse in and out. Crazy. Only had hot dogs to eat. The carts kept backfiring and didn’t work properly
Challenge Course
I thought the course was very challenging. Because this was my first time playing this course, I didn't know the layout had hidden slopes, traps, elevated greens, etc. This course requires you to choose your clubs wisely. I would recommend the course if you truly want to challenge yourself.

Alright I have never left a review before on anything and I feel like I need to since all the terrible reviews this course has gotten! I’ve been golfing 15+ years Michigan resident here for work. This course is not for beginners!!!! Very very tough track blind holes big elevation changes! Tee boxes could use some help very long grass. Paid $45 for 18 and it’s WELL worth the money!! Don’t let these bad reviews push you away this course will test your mental game big time shot an 87 and had a blast!! I’ll be back!!
