Deceptively difficult and muddy
Don't believe the slope rating - this is a difficult course. Greens are very fast and some have serious slopes. I had several easy chips that rolled far past the hole and even off the green that turned into 3 or even 4 putts. But what really made the course difficult was all the mud and extremely wet, soggy, boggy grass. It sometimes seemed as if every one of my drives found either mud or a boggy patch where my feet sank in an inch or so, even on the fairways. On 9/18, you're actually better off missing the fairway to the right where it's drier; the fairway was inch-deep mud. 5/14 doesn't even have a fairway, so you have to hit iron through 200 yards of rough up a hill to the green. It had rained 2 days before, but the next 2 days were dry, warm, and sunny, so for the course to still be that wet is kind of unforgiveable.
Nice course and great staff......but something is wrong with GOLFNOW BOOKINGS
We used the GolfNow app to make on online Golfnow tee time at Goose River using an advertised GolfNow HOT DEAL and paid with a GolfNow reward plus credit card.
We received a GolfNow confirmation email.
We drove about 2 hours to the course and found out that was no GolfNow contract nor authorization for GolfNow to make tee times at this location!
The club staff could not have been more accommodating as they made space for us.
However this is the second occasion, and second Golf Course, in just a week that GolfNow has advertised and sold tee times that do not exist.
This is the only way that I could find to notify GolfNow that this is happening...there is no contact channel available in the App or in the website.
Pleasant Country Course
Lots of tees, so pick your course distance between 5000 and 6000 yards. Many hills and hummocks, wide fairways, plenty of trees on the edges. Small greens, sometimes elevated or crowned, but in good condition and putting true. The fairways are somewhat pasture-like, but certainly playable. The rough is cut to a reasonable length, so you can both find your ball and hit out of it. It's a 9-hole course, so to make the 18 hole experience enjoyable, you should vary the tees second time around. The course would not be an easy walk due to the hills, but their golf carts are in good condition. I found it a pleasant experience to play here, but I prefer country courses to expensive, highly manicured tracks.
Great course
The course has a great layout and was in great condition. The staff was very friendly and didn’t charge my 12 year old. They said they don’t charge kids under 16. Also gave out free water. Will definitely come back the next time I’m in the area.
Wizard
Staff is very customer oriented which got the round off to a good start. Course was a good challenge in its layout. Fair but challenging. Look forward to teeing up at Goose again in the near future. Fore!!!
Delight of Mid-Coast Golf
Goose River offers one a fair test for one who is playing either 9 or 18 holes. Position is the key on this course as it is tough when one gets out of position. The green will test one's ability to read the break and feel the range. We play this course several times a year because the tees set up the course to play different for almost all of the holes. Enjoy your next round of golf at Goose River.
A grate day of golf
Really fun golf course, scenic challenging, course in grate shape, small greens, fun layout staff could not be nicer
All around good time.
The goose is grate.
The course has lots of hills, a fun layout, Maine has had a tun or rain, so all the courses hav been affected, they do a good job there on a shoestring budget, course is at Mother Nature’s mercy. Very friendly, great 19th hole deck overlooking the course.
Great course and location
Really enjoyed my nine holes with my guest from Europe. The course was really wet, and the condition of the course was therefore not fast and ideal. Nevertheless the greens were great and the ambiance was wonderful. Highly recommend this course to any golfer that visits the midcoast.
Definitely play
Great course. Tons of fun. It's a very hilly course that really makes you work for your shots. Up for vacation and played first day. Enjoyed it so much we kept playing for the next 4 days. Staff if phenomenal. Super friendly and helpful. 9 hole course, but the back 9 tees play very differently than the front nine tees. The Goose is our go to course now for this area.
Goose River golfing
This was our first visit to Goose River golf. People were friendly. Very hilly course but straight forward layout. Only nine holes with second round from different tees for some holes. A bit confusing but manageable. My wife and I enjoyed our afternoon golfing outing in Maine.
Pasture converted to holf course
Staff very friendly. A 9 hole course with different tees for the back 9, made the course play much differently. Great value for the money.
