best public course in the area
A really excellent public course - very well maintained - every hole fair but challenging - somewhat punishing on errant tee shots - fast greens that putt true - look forward to next round there
Course was fair
course was in pretty good condition. greens were excellent. Back nine especially challenging
Well Worth the Hour Drive!!
Hog Neck is situated in a wonderful part of Talbott County. The course is laid out perfectly providing elevation changes that will challenge. The greens were quite slick but in good condition. Also, the placement of many of the fairway bunkers are situated along the "average" driving distance. For the long hitters, you can get passed them, but for those 200-250 off the tee, you'll want to be more precise with your drives. The tall pines are a player on a few of the holes, especially on the back. It seemed to me, the course plays a bit longer than you think as I found myself scratching my head on "why" do I have 180+ to reach in regulation. A for sure "Go Play"! A++
It's a beautiful course but the conditions, not so good
There are many great and challenging holes. The unique thing about the course is the front nine plays like a links course and the back is in the woods. Have always liked playing here, but haven't played for a couple of years and I was disappointed in the condition. Fairways were scored and the greens were pock marked.
The best muni in state of Maryland.
Remain the best muni's in Maryland.Matured nicely since inception 20 plus year ago.Front nine was open, back nine was wooded.Have lot of tall loblolly pine trees.
Course has a great layout
Course was golfer friendly and playable with hazards to create shot making
Enjoy the eastern shore for golf
The course was in good shape with fast greens, that were well kept. Front nine open with the back nine requiring more strategic shots, due to more narrow conditions. Overall, a good day
Hog Neck Golf Course
Hog Neck was in great shape, the greens ran on average pace.. The overall condition was above average. The price from Golf Now was outstanding and above average.
Course needs repair
Booked online and when we arrived at course was told they had a tournament and we couldn't play on main course. They did offer complimentary play on executive course to us with $20 for cart fees. That was fine and very accommodating but we would've preferred the main course. I had driven 68 miles to join my friend at this course so was a little disappointed we didn't play main course. But it was fine the way it turned out. I found the exec course in need of repair, cart paths were in bad shape and fairways were in need of cutting and some grass seed.
The staff is doing a great job of course mainenance.
The course is very well maintained and in great shape. They've allowed the rough to grow in, making this classic layout and very good golf challenge. Terrific value. Friendly staff.
stay in the fairways
The course is in great shape. Need to keep your ball in the fairways as the ruff is very thick and dense and you can easily loose you ball only a few feet off the fairway.
Beautiful hideaway right of the 50
This course was in pristine condition. A great value for $16 w/ cart. Many tee options for seniors to Bombers. Enjoyed it.
great course, great value
Hog Neck is always a good test of golfers ability and the course is in really good shape for a public course.
Great value
This is a great course for the money. Fun layout with great conditions. For $40 on a Friday morning we had a great time. Only took us 3 hours and 15 minutes first thing in the morning as a twosome. Probably plays a little longer later in the day. But this is well worth a play if you're in the area.
Great layout
Extremely hard fast fairways promoted tee shots to roll through most doglegs. The rough at this time would almost match US Open conditions, 5-8 inches tall, thick and wet, a wedge was even difficult to advance at times. No primary cut in most places so if you miss the fairway, you're dead (a lot of lost balls within ten feet of the fairway).
Greens were in great shape, roll is true and good pace. Not very receptive for anything more than mid-iron shots. Sticky approaches (most cut and grown in grain facing the fairway so nothing rolls up) and thick collars so chipping must be precise and at a premium. My opinion would be if they cut the rough down to 3 inches or provided a primary cut the course would be more player friendly, most of us aren't tour players.
The course is a good value
Course was in good shape. The Front 9 was forgetful. The Back 9 was very enjoyable. The greens were in good shape, but very SLOW. Could never get myself to hit it hard enough.
Old reliable
Firstly, great to see Hog Neck GC finally on GolfNow!
I have played Hog Neck at least a half-dozen times now, and I enjoy it more each time I play it. It's roughly 30-45 minutes from Bozman, MD which makes it a great choice when we're down at the Eastern Shore. This year they've made a few noticeable changes (e.g. some new tee areas/boxes, lengthening the rough, and new hole marker/yardage signs!).
I originally made a tee time for Saturday at 11:00AM on Thursday evening. I then got a personal phone call from Andy the head PGA Pro Friday morning explaining that they're new to GolfNow and haven't worked out all the kinks yet. The kink he was referring to was the fact they were having an 18-hole shotgun tournament starting at 8:30AM and my 11AM tee time just wasn't going to happen. He apologized and offered to accommodate me and my fiancé with a round on the executive course while we waited for our new 1:30PM tee time or to participate in their demo day...all of which was over and above anything I expected. In the end, we just went out at our new tee time and finished the entire round in a little under 4 hours.
The course was in good Spring form with some brown spots in a few fairways but nothing to be upset about. The greens were rolling true and at a good clip. Wind was a factor on the more open front 9 but seemed to die down on the tree-lined back 9.
Can't wait to go back to a course that quickly became an old favorite.
