6 par 3’s
The lay out of this course is very wide open, undilating. There isn’t a flat lie on the entire course.
Plenty long in on most holes, par 3’s included. Greens were soft, well-maintained but on the slow side for July.
My main gripe - layout aside - 6 par 3 holes that to me is a head- scratcher .... my main gripe was the condition of the grass on the course . Fairways look as if they were mowed by grazing cattle and the rough was all clover - lost too many balls in play!
Great staff and a fun course to play. Good safety protocols. A bit slow but it is a holiday week end.
Great value
If you're looking for a low stress round in a beautiful setting with an old school layout and feel - Oakland is your course!. Nice vibe in clean mountain air!+
Beautiful Mountain setting
Breathtaking views with very challenging holes. Most of the par 3 were long but attainable challenging you to use some long distance clubs in your bag. Great course for the money. Can’t wait to play it again!
Wow....
I could tell the layout of the course was pretty solid. A little quirky with back to back par fives and a lot of elevated tee shots and greens. The maintenance of the course made it awful to play. Sand traps haven’t been touched in years And have weeds growing out of them. Fairways and roughs were pretty much the same with clover filling both. Greens were in decent shape. That alone would leave it at a 2-3 star rating. The one star comes from the service inside the pro shop. Making the turn I went to pay for a few gatorades (no beers available) with a credit card and the guy gave me some passive aggressive attitude about using a credit card vs cash. Avoid this place if you can.
Staff was very friendly- was a little slow but considering the frost in the morning pace was okay only took 4 hours
Worth every penny!
I love this course and it's well kept for only paying 30 dollars to play.
Great Value, laid back vibe at Oakland Golf Club in MD
My wife and I like to play at Oakland Golf Club in Oakland, MD. It is a great value and has a frienly, laid back vibe.
Mountain course gem
This course for the money is as good as any. Conditions not perfect but greens are excellent. The back 9 built in 1937 has postage stamp size greens. If you hit one with tee shot you got a pretty good look at birdie. Oakland is only a short drive from deep creek lake resorts. The front 9 is a bit more hilly with more normal sized greens. Bring your short game to this course you're going to do some pitching and chipping
Very good course, great for the money!
I really really liked the layout of the course. There were a fair amount of risk vs reward situations that I feel make the game much more enjoyable.
The condition of some of the tee boxes were very subpar... And a high percentage of sand bunkers as well. But still a great course for the money!
Traditional course with great value
Old-school course with unconventional layout (three par 5's, three par 3's on the front 9) with lots of "postage stamp" sized greens in very good shape.
Best condition in years!
Course was excellent and staff was great. Sand traps were ok but he greens are exceptional. Great value!
Decent Duffer
The course is a rural municipal course but it is fun to play although a bit long from the white tees for most casual golfers. Quite hilly so you want to take a cart. Fairways and greens were in great shape and while there are holes that are narrow most are forgiving.. It was a great day for golf even if the scores were not that great.
