Great staff and good round of golf for the price
Played 18 with a cart for $32 a person on Golfnow.com. The course was in good shape and the staff was very helpful. I'll be coming back and would recommend Gopher Hills to a friend.
love 2 different nines
Love the course. Front links style. Back the old nine fun. Some elevation changes. Always been in good shape. Played there about 15 times through the years. Great play for the buck. Very friendly staff.
interesting design
some very tough holes, great views, course is in very good condition
Very scenic - great condition
The front and back nines are very different. The front is a links type course that looks open but it has a lot of long grass and marshes that all to frequently come into play. The back nine goes out through mature woods with narrow openings and more water hazards than the front.
The course is in terrific shape. Tees, fairways, greens are some of the best overall conditions I have played this year. Rough is not watered and can be a challenge if too far from the fairway. Outside of the rough and near cartpaths the conditions were close to pristine
This is a beautiful course. I have played here before and brought a camera with me this time to take some pictures back home. The picture I posted is the view from the first tee.
Challenging course with significant topography changes
Pleasant country drive to Miesville on a cool autumn morning. Corn fields abound as you pass acre after acre of farm fields. As you roll into Miesville, the Mudhens stadium greets you along with about 40 residences, 2 eating establishments and a church. Turn down Cty Rd 91 about 2 miles and topography begins to change. A beautiful club house and seclusion from metro hustle-&-bustle. Rolling terrain, large elevation differences without huge distance limitations. If you are in good shape walk. If NOT - ride! greens and fairways green and lush. Good yardage marking, 150 yard markers easy to see and they frame your shot. A few blind shots, but most are identifiable. Outstanding views from more than tee box and green. This is a fun course with challenging holes for all skill levels.
I recommend, however this wasn't a fun round
Ok so approach with caution, however there is some good golf to be had at this course. To explain; the staff was dismissive and unable to accommodate me with my tee time that I had purchased ahead of time. Even after loading up my cart and returning to the club house they were unable to provide me with a location to tee off. They offered me the par 3 course while I waited. On my way there I saw no one at #1 of the main course. I was able to sneak on the front nine with no one really caring. Fun course with elevation changes up and down the fairways. Challenging with out obscene length, blind shots on a few holes keep the course interesting. Course was in decent shape, however if the staff isn't able to get pre paid players on the course, there may be a problem there.
Nice Challenge. Good Track
Back nine is more challenging than the front. Fairways are wide enough but there are several blind shots that you won't know where to aim if you haven't played the course before. Overall, a good value for the money and worth the driver out to Cannon Falls. Greens in good condition but a little slow. Definitely soft enough to absorb approach shots so little to problem stopping the ball on the green. Will play again and probably score better having seen the course once.
Great course grounds.
Pro-shop personnel take your money but that is as far as it goes. Took ten minutes to clean the garbage out of two carts enough that we could use them.
Went to club restaurant to eat after and staff was more interested in the locals hanging out at the bar than serving us in a timely and correct manner (food order wrong, took forever to get bill).
Gopher Hills is a great value!
course was in GREAT shape the day I played it. It plays very fair and has a nice layout. I brought a couple buddies with who had never played the course before (yes, I had) and they were very impressed with the course overall.
When the name includes "Hills."
This very challenging 18 hole couse belies the slope rating of 120. I have recently played courses with a slope rating of 130+ and found them much easier. With very few flat hitting surfaces, one constantly has the ball below or above your feet. You are constantly hitting uphill or downhill. Obviously I did not play well on this course. The course was in excellent condition, the staff was minimal and hurried. I won't be returning very often.
Great course for the money and the slops are challenging.
Very unique course with rolling hills and great scenery. For the most part the women's tees are friendlier.
If you go for hills ....play here!
Fun course to play. The course is hilly and the greens are quick but roll true. Some of the fairways had winter damage, so they had some rough and bare patches, but overall the course was in good shape. I would recommend riding a cart if it's a hot and sunny day, as there is very little shade.
Very scenic course out in the country.
We love this course. It was very well maintained with some challenging holes. When we golfed, it wasn't too busy because of potential rain in the forecast. Lovely course layout. Being out in the country you can hear the birds sing. Highly recommend trying out the course.
Good for the price
This course could be maintained better and provide more hazards, but for the money this course is a bargain. Would be a great course for beginners.
kids on fathers day
Very hilly track. Mostly open with tall prairie grass between the holes, so wide open doesn't mean easy. Stray shots will keep you from making the green in regulation or send you back to the tee box. Fathers Day crowd was pretty thick with children so I made a detour to the exec 9 to let the front nine clear out a bit.
This course has a very different front nine and back nine.
I like this course because the front nine is more like a links course and the back nine has more trees and water. It's fairly short so a variety of golfers can enjoy the experience. The rolling hills and out of the city feel certainly help to make it a more relaxing round.
Winter was hard on these fairways
I played Gopher Hills for the first time in 9 years and I was surprised to see how much it has changed. The back nine didn't even exist the last time I played out here and now it's like two different courses from front to back. All in all it provided a very challenging setup.
Unfortunately the course was also not in the greatest shape. The fairways really took a beating this winter. In many spots there is nothing more than a few blades of grass and a lot of exposed soil. Obviously this is not the easiest surface to play from and it's really disheartening to hit a nice drive right down the center only to find yourself on bare soil. On the positive side it does appear they are trying to address this but I'm not sure they can really do this and still use the course at the same time. After all, how do you rope off major sections of the fairway in order to let them recover? I don't know that it's practical.
On the plus side, the greens were in EXCELLENT shape. There didn't seem to be any winter kill on them and they rolled true, albeit a bit slow. Regardless it is worthing noting that once you are on the green you will have a true test.
Will I come back? Yes. I believe this course will be much more enjoyable once the weather allows it to dry out some and the fairways have a chance to recover. Even with all these problems it was a great value round for the price I paid.
Good layout, back side is better of the 2 nines.
Good shape for early in golf season. Usually has great greens later. New cement cart paths are a welcome addition. Great value on Golf Now!
Great course, friendly staff, definitely one to revisit.
My dad and I really enjoyed this course, nice variety of terrain. Course ranged from open fields to rolling hills. Well maintained and staffed. Looking forward to playing there again.
