Lives up to its reputation
A real treat to finally play this historical old course. Excellent condition, really nice greens that play faster than the greens I'm used to in the South Metro public courses. Mature hardwood trees define most of the fairways and can make you pay with a punch out to get back into play, but on most of those holes you feel like you had a fair chance of hitting the fairway and the miss was on you.
First timers: if you aren't experienced in adjusting club selections for elevation changes, you might want to go in with a mindset of just enjoying the experience and tearing up the scorecard. There are many holes where you're hitting up or down significantly to the green. To compound that on the uphill shots, you sometimes may not be quite sure about the shape and size of the green or where a good miss would be. Good fun, bad scores :)
Another thing that might get first timers is how to play some of the less-than-driver tee shots on dogleg Holes #8 and #14 especially, and possibly #16 and #17 for bigger hitters. I think course experience would help immensely on those. The tee shot on #8 is one of the more intimidating shots you'll come across. You're coming out of chute in the woods that feels about twenty yards wide to a landing area that looks from the tee to be about the size of a green. Dense woods the whole way left, right, and long, and you need about 200 yards to get to the right angle dogleg and have a clear second shot.
My group of first-timers loved the front 9 layout (except for #8) and weren't quite as favorable to the back 9 because of the layout of the holes mentioned above. But it won't keep us from coming back.
One more thing - hats off to you if you walk 18 on this course. You must be in terrific shape!
This course is a gem. I look forward to playing again.
One of the best in Minnesota
Challenging layout but still approachable. Affordable and well maintained
The greens were quick and fairways had most of the leaves cleared, so very playable. The staff was very cordial and accommodating.. Enjoyed our round, thanks!
The red wing golf course is in amazing shape. The leaf cleanup and cleanliness of the fairways, bunkers and greens were in above average condition. I will recommend this course to all my friends and family in the future. To see a full crew working hard on a Saturday told me this course takes pride in its appearance.
Red Wing Country Club Beauty
RWCC is consistently in great shape. Our play on 10/320 was no exception. Leaves were picked up, greens were fast and fairways in great shape. The remodeled clubhouse looks fabulous and the expanded event area is awesome. The staff was courteous and helpful with carts, sign in and play; ready to go. Terrific experience!
Beautiful golf course and fun to play. The greens and fairways were in excellent condition.
Great conditions, perfect greens
Played here a few times over the years, it’s never looked better nor have the greens been this smooth. The bunkers were tournament ready, and the staff were terrific!
Fun, Quirky course
Fathers Day is always a challenge for golf courses trying to keep pace of play, etc. No exception here.. Shortage of carts and no starter so we teed off 40 minutes after our scheduled tee time. A free for all. Understaffed for the volume. But staff tried, very friendly.
Very hilly, narrow course. Not long but the hills gave it plenty of length. Course was in very good shape. Greens were difficult. One hole # 12 green was not fair. Yardage not well marked a few times so really need to play again. I would definitely play again. Really fun, quirky course. Very good value for the money.
Tough, tough golf course!
Very difficult golf course, in immaculate condition...Will definitely play here again...Can't say enough about a great golf course in fabulous condition...Manager wonderful! Thanks for a great day...By the way, if you are putting from above the hole, be careful!l
Greens are in great condition
Beautiful day for golf. Great service no leaves and course in
