Cart vs tee time

Overall, we had a good experience, but my rating was affected. By the fact, we were not told where to tee off so when we chose the course we wanted, there were already three other groups. There, all were a little upset that we had a long jam, and all also confirmed that they were not told where to go. And the big one was the cart. We chose the last teatime of the evening and were told before we started that we had to have the cart back at 8:30 PM, but they could have somebody come out to the course and pick it up from us and we would have to walk the rest of the way. Although I understand there’s steps to closing up shop, but why would you allow a teatime that late with a cart but then have the stipulation that the car has to be taken from the group before they finish? So at 8:30 PM we had two holes to go, waiting for somebody to come find us, nobody came. I wanted to do the nice thing and to help them out so they could wrap things up and get the shop closed up just like he told me they needed to. So we drove back the two holes Got to the clubhouse, they weren’t even close to getting stuff done and ready for the evening. We could’ve continued our round on the cart. Instead, we walked back to where we left off and finished the course on foot. Just seems a little silly that you allow a teatime That late, but the group runs the risk of having it pulled from you if you’re not back by a certain time.

Choose middle and back nine

The front nine was rough in some places! The middle was excellent. Would try the back nine instead of the front nine

A fun course, but not what I expected

For some reason...perhaps because of Little House on the Prairie, I always thought Minnesota was pretty flat. Duluth is not, and neither is Enger Park Golf Course! I was very impressed playing with a local who was in his late 60's and pushing a cart up and down some pretty serious hills. Unfortunately, like everywhere else in Duluth this summer, they are doing construction on the course (it looked like new sprinkler lines). That turns the last par five on the front into a par 3, and introduces a fairly lengthy (180 yds or so) forced carry off the first tee. Other than that, the construction really didn't impact play. The greens have a lot of contour, which made approach shots and chipping an adventure at times. Although most of the greens slope back to front, they were dry enough to allow you to land a little short and run on for front pins (which I like more than just hoisting a wedge high in the air). Pace of play could have been better...we started as a three (two walking and me riding, behind a riding threesome. By the second hole the single behind us joined us, and with two walking and two riding in separate carts, we were frequently waiting on the three ahead of us (and it didn't seem that they were spending a long time looking for balls that were off into the woods. I need to find out if they have rental push carts so that, if I'm ever in the area again I can see if I can walk the course.

Opening weekend

Course was in good shape for just coming out of winter in Duluth. Very few soggy spot. Will be nice when new irrigation system is finished. Front 9 is open middle and back are still closed.

Lots of potential!

I played an early morning round and really enjoyed the staff during check-in and the ranger/starter. The layout is challenging, but the yardage on holes is reasonable. You don't have to hit a perfect driver shot in a tight spot to score well. Great views and fun elevation changes around. My only knock would be the state of the course. Greens were pretty patchy and lots of fairways on the back 9 were hard-packed dirt with dead grass. I will definitely be back next time I am in Duluth!

Beware of the low cost

I purchased a round of golf for my wife and I at a reasonable price at walking because that was all that was offered. When we got to the course carts were available and allowed, I inquired what the additional cost was for a cart and purchased a cart for 2 seniors and paid over $30.00 for 9 holes. Seemed a little high, course was in descent shape considering the winer we had, greens were surprisingly in good condition.

The Enger Park web site doesn’t really give prices for the carts alone and maybe that needs to be changed.

Great Course! Overall, Well-Managed

It was a misty day out when my wife and I went out. The course was in pretty good shape and there was a good mix of hole difficulties.

It was quite a bumpy ride in a cart, and there is actually a frisbee golf course on the main course (which was one of the reasons why pace of play was a bit slower).

We enjoyed being out in Duluth and would recommend Enger Park to anyone who visited!

Sad Day for Duluth Golf

I grew up playing and working at Enger Park Golf Course and it is a shame to see how bad it is. The greens were okay. Everything else was horrible. There was barely any grass on some holes. Rocks in the former fairways, weeds everywhere, rocks in the bunkers. Some holes you could not distinguish between fairway and rough. It was a nostalgic round, but I think the course is beyond repairable in spots. The clubhouse is falling a part. It was $13 for large bucket of balls. The balls were horrible and so was the driving range grass. The people are nice though.

Course is bouncing back

I’m a local that hasn’t liked playing Enger due to poor course conditions over the past several years. We played today on a hot deal from golf now and hoped the course was in better shape because of the work that has been done to restore fairways and greens. Boy were we pleasantly surprised of how good the course looked on the Front/Middle. Fairways were green and the greens were in excellent condition. I know that the course has struggled since the flooding 9 years back and it’s built basically on a huge rock so the course conditions are to be expected. If you’ve given up on Enger I urge you to get back out there and give them another chance like we did because you won’t be disappointed the course is bouncing back and is in great playing condition.

First timer

I thought the course was very fun to play. Had some challenging holes. Especially the few dog leg lefts. Overall, I had a great time with our group of four we had golfing. Staff were also very friendly and willing to talk. The course was a little dry on a couple holes that made for tough shots even in the fairway.

Fun track!

Very friendly staff. We played the front and middle 9s. They are making really nice changes by upgrading a few fairways each year. Very fun track!
