Good for the Money
A fairly standard course that offers good value. Twilight rate is great, and the course offers some challenging holes and interesting layouts. The pace of play was very slow, which was the only true negative. Otherwise, a great spot for a fun afternoon of golf.
Fair course for the money
As long as you don't hit straight at hazards off the tee, you should be able to find your ball and have a play on it. Greens were punched not too long ago, so made some interesting long putts. Altogether the course was in pretty good shape and not too challenging.
Best Score
I had a very good day playing at Gross. My best 18 hole score ever! We played right after a rain storm but that didn’t dampen our day. I really enjoyed the course - it is just long enough and challenging enough for a relatively newer golfer like myself. Not too much water and bunkers could easily be avoided! The long grass though was hard to get out of!! I’m looking forward to playing this course again when I return to the area next summer.
Gross National
Its a great city course to play. Trees are mature. Has a few long holes. It can get busy on the weekend.
Terrible Conditions, Greens Destroyed, Friendly Staff
The images shown are definitely from this year. Must’ve been a harsh winter because this course is in terrible shape, yet they are still charging $57/round. Every green had dead spots, several greens were almost completely dead. Just awful. Fairways weren’t much better, but the greens really ruined the experience. They’re in a tough spot because they clearly need to pay their staff to fix the greens and fairways, but charging nearly $60 for a round is not sustainable.
I’d love to play it again either at half that price or once the course has been fixed. Doubt it will be fixed this year. But good luck.
Pace was good. Staff was friendly. Layout is decent. But, the course conditions were just awful.
A good course for a close to home round
This course is pretty nice, like all of the Minneapolis parks clubs. They are maintained well, facilities are pretty nice and the staff is average but not bad by any means. The layout is not my favorite, it feels a little clumped together but for the area it is in I can accept it. The par 3's are the best part, they are challenging and I always enjoy them. My only real complaint: slow rounds. There are usually a lot of people on this course and it jams up. Especially at the tee for #3. You will be waiting if you play this course, but if you don't mind then you will be just fine. Overall, I feel it is a nice course for a round after work or if you don't feel like driving too far out of the city. It is worth playing.
Gross Review
One of my favorite MSP municipal courses. A solid layout that is lined by trees makes for a nice challenge. Not a long course by any means but will require you to keep it on the fairway. There weren't any holes that really stuck in my memory but at the same time I never felt anything was set up unfairly. It was an easy walk and I look forward to playing it again.
Gross review
when I played it in the middle of the 2014 summer the course was in great condition. the greens were fine and the fairways looked great. However this year in 2015 i've heard that the greens are a wreck. Hopefully the course gets back on track with there greens.
