Terrible staff
I feel bad for the owner such a great person but the staff is terrible. The person in the check in is alwqys in a bad mood and treats people teribly when his boss is not around. The mash goes around treating everyone very bad for no reason instead of doing his job and keeping the pace in the course. This saturday it took us 3 hours and 25 minutes to play 9 holes we had to wait 10 minutes EVERY single hole for the 2 or 3 grups in fron of us to tee off
Terrible
2:50 minute and only made it to 7th hole, staff was rude and it’s not worth the time to type anymore for it.
Terrible place and terrible sraff
Carts were backed up 12 deep at 1st tee and started 30 minutes late, pace of play was terrible and took 2:45 to play 7 holes and left because I didn’t want a 6 hr day. Marshall was terrible and for a cheap course it’s worth spending money elsewhere.
Awful and Rude marshal
Marshal drove past us all day making nasty comments. Pace was ridiculous we started 18 at 11:27 and didn’t finish until 5. Marshal as far as I could tell was the only bad employee. Fairways were extremely tall. Greens were pretty good. Overall was still a good day but wouldn’t waste my money there again. Would pay a bit extra for a far better experience at tapawingo.
Decent course
Got paired with people that would not stop talking during me and my buddy’s swings (not the courses fault just annoying) and the tee boxes were spotty on good places to actually tee off, with that being said the rest of the course is great very forgiving when you hit a bad shots and a good handful of holes with water around that makes it challenging for even good golfers! It’s a fun course that I will definitely give repeat visits
Not a great experience
To start, the fairways were almost as tall as the rough so it made it very hard to find your ball, the Marshall was following us around rushing us to finish because “the sooner we get done, the sooner he can go home” when we only took just over 4 hours to play 18.
This course was 100% not worth the $45.
The course was in decent shape, although there were a number of areas that had standing water.
The main issue was on #1 tee things were disorganized. The other thing was that for the first 3 holes we waited for 5+ minutes to tee off.
First time playing here was 50 years ago!
I've always enjoyed the place. Very straight forward and forgiving course to polish your game up on.
Too early to tell
The fairways were spotty with grass. Lots of bare sports around the greens, making show chips difficult (hitting off dirt). Greens were in fair shape.
What are those fairways?
The thing that makes this a bad course are the fairways. Hit a drive down the middle of the fairway? Great you're going to be hitting your next shot off dirt. There were some parts where the rough was better than the fairway.
Went on a sunday so the pace of play was expected to be slow. During the weekdays it could be better but not sure.
Staff was friendly and awesome to talk with. Food at the turn was quick and lady running the counter made sure we knew about the deals.
If the fairways were better I would return here because the layout is great. However, the conditions were just harsh
Poor Pace of Play/Carts in early
Being one of the cheapest 18 Hole options in the St Louis Metro area in a fairly centralized location, you're bound to get people who lack common golfing courtesy. Tack on top of that the course booking tee times too closely together and a complete lack of on-course oversight (in terms of a roaming marshal) and you have a breeding ground for exceptionally slow Pace of Play. Was stuck behind a Foursome for my entire round of 9 holes where all 4 players had to gather around and watch each other take practice swings, slowly set up their shot, then hit their ball (poorly, might I add). Fairly certain they had never heard the term "Ready Golf" before. The course NEEDS a marshal keeping PoP.
My biggest issue with Riverside, which is one Ive always had and often forget when im booking tee times, is how ungodly early they require carts to be in. Playing 9, starting at 4:45, they require the carts back in by 6:30 and I just barely managed to make that (see above PoP issues). For record, the sun did not set until well after 7:30 and could have easily played the other 9 before sunset by passing the Foursome at the turn. Pretty much every other course Ive played wants the carts in by sunset and it's criminal how early Riverside requires them in. It's pure laziness by whatever cart staff they have, just wanting to clean the carts and go home earlier. It's a lack of dedication to the course and the customer.
It's a shame, because the course is looking much better as the weather has warmed up and is fairly well taken care of by the groundskeeper, considering how many unrepaired divots I find myself fixing throughout the round are left on the fairways and greens (see lack of golf courtesy). I'd much rather spend a few more dollars to play another course with the current issues there. I hope that they get more/better staff and do better for the course and the players, but will not be returning in the near future until these simple-to-fix issues are addressed.
Rainy Day
It was raining on us all day so the course was pretty much open and not pushed for pace at all. The staff was excellent and it was reasonably priced. Not a hard course which I liked because I haven't been playing long. I will definitely return to this course.
