Better than going to the range
If hitting a large bucket of balls makes your back hurt than this is a great alternative.
Wait! The staff needs to play first!
I was sold a late tee time, like smz above, for around 7 pm. The course was extremely over sold. There was a group of 9 (that's right, 9 people in one group) in front of me. I was happy to use this time to practice, though. I even let the final two groups play through me so that I could practice bunker shots on the second hole. The worst part about the round was when I came to the extreme bottle neck at hole 6. I decided to re-play hole 3, but as I was about to hit my tee shot, the "PGA Pro-Chris" confronted me and insisted that I had cut in front of him. I tried to be patient and explain the circumstances, but the guy was a jerk. He was more interested in confronting me and continuing his round, instead of managing course pace of play, addressing customers respectfully, or metering the amount of golfers sold...his suggestion: "play somewhere else." Easy enough, I will not be going back.
My suggestion: Go somewhere else.
I would recommend: Emerald Greens (great course in North County), Landings at Spirit of St. Louis, Missouri Bluffs, Norman Probstein (The 27 hole course at Forest Park, Creve Couer 9-hole (If you just want to play a nine-hole), or Clinton HIll (in Illinois). Each of these courses are good quality. Emerald Greens is an especially good value.
Small but fun min hole course
The highlands at forest park is a well kept course and a great way to get a quick nine holes in. The course layout is very short but has some fun holes that make you make decisions from tee to green. The fairways, bunkers and greens were also in great shape. Came to the course by accident but will play again very soon.
Good course but very slow
I booked a last-minute tee time for just before 7:00 pm. I was let out as a single, but arrived at the first tee box to see a foursome on the green, a foursome on the fairway, a foursome waiting at the tee box, and a twosome waiting behind them. I skipped ahead to the second hole, but was stuck behind a foursome on the green and a foursome waiting on the tee box. All in all, I had a 15-20 minute wait before every shot and did not get very many holes in. I don't understand the purpose of even having tee times if there is no enforcement or starter to dictate the pace of play. Aside from that, the course is actually in good shape with some fun holes; I think it would be a fun round if you found the right time to go.
