Staff and course outstanding
course is spectacular. My .wife and I only wanted to play 9 holes and staff was extremely accommodating..Elena was most helpful.
Don't lose her
Stunning views of the bay. Picturesque course hole after hole. Best Arthur Hills course I have played.
Blind spots
Great time at Crooked Tree. there are a lot of blind spots. buy the yardage book for $5 its worth it!
This course is a must
My uncle and I had a package through Boyne and it came with four rounds. We had a 9:20 tee time, and from the second we pulled into the parking lot, we knew it was going to be a magical day. We had played The Moore course the previous day and we thought it was great. When we approached the first tee here at C.T, we were blown away, and it blew The Moore out of the water. This course is spectacular. The layout is rather diverse, but there's a handful of dog-legs and blind shots, so be prepared to drive up to see
1.Where the pin is and
2. if the group ahead of you is clear and out of your way.
We were supposed to play our second 18 of the day at The Ross after our round at C.T, but it was so spectacular we switched our reservation and played there again around 4:30! This course is absolutely worth playing. Regardless of how well you played, you'll be thinking about the course for the days to come.
Amazing layout, unfortunately the new houses block its original beauty
Great course that has a lot of character. If you’re looking for a challenge, then this course is for you. The undulations in the ground were out of this world. It’s definitely a challenge to safely land your flop shot 50 feet above the green. Personally, I like playing at Boyne’s resort, more. But if you want a change of pace then come on over to this beauty.
Another Arthur Hills gem!
As I referenced in an earlier review, I have become a big fan of Arthur Hills' courses over the years. Crooked Tree adds to this. It's a great course that is part of the Boyne family of courses.
There are a variety of tee boxes available for different playing levels. The course conditions were more than acceptable for this early in the year for Northern Michigan. The course itself offered a number of challenges including fast, undulating greens (some of the undulations have to be seen to be believed), difficult approaches to greens protected by deep bunkers, blind tee shots, and beautiful vistas of Little Traverse Bay. (Some of these rival Crooked Tree's better known "brother" course Bay Harbor, which is just down the road.
All in all, playing Crooked Tree was a great experience that I look to repeat the next time I'm in the Petoskey area.
Highly recommended!
Vacation golf
If you are in the Petoskey,MI. area this is a must play. Excellent conditions and challenging.
Very fair & only a few " blind" shots.. Greens are very true to putt..You will enjoy the challenge
Beautiful layout
Variety of challenging holes, well maintained, smooth putting surfaces, beautiful setting with views of Little Traverse Bay.
Wonderful play but expensive
As part of the Boyne portfolio just a few miles north and inland from the top rated ridiculously expensive Bay Harbor course Crooked Tree has really nice vistas of Lake Michigan, elevation changes and in general is a very well maintained challenging golf course where there are several holes that you need to play a few times to get the hang of it. Nice range to warm up on. Recommended but yes some of the greens are a bit over the top. Pet peeves are that it's expensive......at least $80 plus, beverage prices are steep ($5 plus for a 12 oz can of Bell's beer, $3 for a Vitamin water) but worse is that the really nice looking from the outside clubhouse facility only has one mens toilet and one urinal and smells like a barn. At least you are treated right and it's not "snooty" like the employees at Bay Harbor.....nice welcoming folks at this place. 4 stars....and yes I'm downgrading a full 1 star because of cruddy men's "locker room" and prices.
Great course
Course was in excellent shape. The only thing I could suggest would be yardage makers..perhaps the Kirby system.
The women handling our bags and setting up our carts did an excellent job. She is quite the worker also handling the driving range. You have a great employee.
Love the layout, hate Greens
This is great track. The course has 5 par 3's which when you look at the tees for orange are at 5900 yards. Trust me unless you can drive it 250 yards plus all the time is all the course you could ever want. My only issue is the greens. There is significant undulation and to keep them fair they are slow. Hole 2 green far too tricked up as well as 9 & 18 shared green. 18 has been improved but in my opinion both of these could be completely redone. They offer few pin placements. I still give this high recommendation with the changes to hole 16, 17 and 18 did a lot of improvements to the course feel. The views starting from 15 one are just perfect looking out to the bay. Of all the Boyne courses the staff are certainly the most friendly that is not to say they all aren't just better with exception of Bay Harbor. I can only recall one time I have played it slow play was an issue and the staff were quick to apologize after loosing track of the slow group.
Northern Michigan Golfing at it's VERY BEST!!!
Played on one of the most perfect golf weather days possible... 80 degrees w/ only a trace of a breeze on a Saturday in late September. Staff was very friendly & offered advice on several points of the course to be aware of w/ shots. VERY difficult greens as they are extremely undulated & fast. Course design is excellent w/ a lot of fairway undulations along with incredible topography & views of Lake Michigan. #16 really stands out being a par 4 with an incredible elevation change after your tee-shot. Your 2nd shot goes down to a green that seemed like 50-75 feet below.
Nice driving range perfectly situated from clubhouse & so many great holes to mention here.
HIGHLY recommend playing this course---especially with the price at $37 w/ cart!
Only recommendation I would suggest---and I told this to the staff---- is that a yardage book with hole advice on each hole is a must due to many of the blind shots you are faced with and a yardage guide would help immensely w/ club choices off tees and in some of the fairway shots.......
