Hendricks Field Golf Course

Very friendly staff, as the rain was coming so they moved my tee time to let play !!! Just reopened after renovations..

Course was redone recently. I believe this is the second day of reopening. New layout is good, but its only 9 hole. Can't wait for the full course to open. Staff was friendly. Pace of play was good. 2hrs to complete 9holes.

Hendricks Field is hands down one of the best golf courses in NJ that you may have never heard of. It's a relatively short course, so it is very playable by all types of golfers.

Hendrick's real appeal can be found in how Charles Banks sculpted the greens complexes & its template hole design. Banks was a protégé of Seth Raynor; one of the best golf architects who ever lived. And his expertise over golf architecture really shows in how he approached the layout of certain holes at Hendricks Field. Most notably is the 4th, a short par 4 with a Principal's Nose bunker guarding the ideal angle in to the green. You can try and go for it in 1, but miss just ever so slightly short or right and you're looking at a very tough up & down at best.

The staff are all wonderful and care very much about the course and it's guests. There isn't much in the form of amenities, but you can still get a snack or drink at the turn.

My only advice is to stick to weekdays or very early tee-times on weekends as play can be a little slow at times.

When we checked in the cashier did not mention that only 9 holes were available for play. The starter told us later. Pace of play was horrible. It took 3 hours to play 9 holes. Greens were in good shape, but the rest of course was very poor. We have played here before and enjoyed it, but today everything was mixed up and ruined our golf experience. Golf Now did not post that only 9 holes were available when I purchased the tee time. My confirmation from Golf Now that came later did say 9 holes. I would appreciate a return of my payment due to nothing being handled professionally. Thank you.

As of this review, if you book a round, especially for 18 holes, you'll need to call ahead and verify that's what you're indeed getting. Book 9 holes, you'll probably play 10, but make sure you take 2 scorecards-- one for the course map--because the 2nd to 6th holes (across the road) are closed, so the 7th will be your second hole. You can forget the 10th, 11th & 12th, too, so the 13th will be your 5th hole. (Still with me?) Then there's the starter, who loads your bag on the cart while telling you he wants to give you "a country club feel", but regards you as possessing 3 heads if you ask about refreshment options. (Especially the availability of peanuts.) The only thing you can be absolutely certain of, is the starter verbally affirming loudly that he "works here", especially when confused golfers venture to the 1st tee before His Highness has granted permission. Lovely course though arguably the worst county course you'll encounter from a management standpoint. Good luck if you book there.

Booked 18 holes. No notice that the front 9 is closed until June. Finally able to start 25 minutes after scheduled start. Had to go back in after 1st 9 to get a starting time for next 9. Staff was very nice but it was busy. Finally got us out and 6 hours later finished. Golf Now should be ashamed.

Only 9 holes open and golf now did not tell me. Golf now said 18 holes
