Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Valleyview/Lakeview Course
About
The Valleyview nine is the most difficult course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately one hour from New York City. Small greens, tree-lined fairways, hilly terrain and out of bounds on seven of nine holes are among the reasons the Valleyview nine is a test. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1979.

Great value
I got this price on last-minute go off awesome the only reason for the three stars for a course condition is they just aerated not too long ago but still the greens were pretty good and of course is in real good condition I would definitely recommend this course for all types of whoppers it's golfer friendly.
Farmstead - best i've seen it in years
Had a opportunity for a golfnow HOTRATE at 2:40... which was the first public tee time of the day, a 200 person shotgun outing was getting off the course. This was the way golf was meant to be placed. Some of the holes on the back Clubview will remind you of Mattawang -- rolling hills, some water to contend with, well-guarded greens. Lakeview for 9 holes is a great 9 to play. The par 3's are long and you will probably hit most clubs in your bag.
The course was in SPECTACULAR shape. The greens seemed like they were just cut and rolled for this outing and very little signs of play on them. Our foursome finished in 3 hours and 40 minutes. Some of the tee boxes make you shape your tee shots (I.e not hitting it too high, or playing a power fade on #8). They need to trim some of the branches in my opinion but it makes the tips interesting (#4 is not fair though --- especially to those who hit a cut shot with the driver). I ended up hitting a low fader off of the tree on the right, and into the weeds.
Anytime you see a golfnow rate here, call the clubhouse and find out if you are getting on after an outing --- we were completely by ourselves! A group that recent;ly started on #1 clubview (our 10th hole after completing valley) were quick to get out of our way and keep it moving.
Decent course
Got a good deal from Golfnow. Played Lake/Club. Course is relatively short although the par 3's are long. Tee ground, fairway, greens are in bad shape and slow greens. Staff not too friendly and hope they do a better job in maintenance..would be a much more enjoyable course
farmstead golf course, lafayette, nj
We played the club/valley course.
The Valley course was in rough shape. Farmstead has 3 nine hole courses on it and valley seemed like an afterthought and it is also maintained as such.
Farmstead is recommendable but only for Club and Lake courses.
nice view
very nice course. maintain well, Challenge with water .
Six hour round
We left after 5 hours playing only 15 holes. Waited 10-15 minutes on every tee box. There were frequently three groups on every hole. There are signs everywhere saying each nine holes should play in two hours and 15 minutes, and they "enforce that pace". Not true at all. Saw one ranger all day and was told " there are a lot of families out here on the weekends " and that they were "mobbed". The responsibility to manage that better falls on the golf course staff and they did a terrible job of it . The fairway grass was the length of the first cut of rough in most places. The holes on the greens did not look like they had been moved in 2 or 3 days, grass was growing over the edges of the cups. This experience wasn't worth $25, let alone $55.00.
Great course
Must play position golf on some holes
Otherwise you really can't get into trouble
Great course
Perfect weather, course in great shape, great day !
Good Saturday morning round
First time playing Farmstead GC this morning. No driving range to warm up. Good pace of play for a weekend round. Course lays out in front of you. That was especially nice for a first time play. Fairways and greens are in good shape for the most part (although I saw one fairway with a huge weed sticking up about 4 inches). Greens are flat without much break.
I don't think that I would want to play this course on a regular basis but it was a good change of pace.
Club/Valley
I think the real gem here is their lake course, but if playing the club/valley, it felt like it left a little overpriced. But it is Jersey so not surprised at all. Conditions and course were nice throughout and I liked the club a lot more than the valley. The back 9 on valley didn't feel all that exciting, but it had some nice landscaping.
.
Course in immaculate condition. Golfnow rate of $24 per golfer with a cart is outstanding value for a course this good
Great, fairly short course.
Super conditions and delightful venue with lake and hillside views. Longer par 3's make up for the less than 6000 yd track. Mature trees and ample turf ensure a happy day. Recommended.
no ranger
The starter was nasty, the pace of play so slow and there no ranger present.18 holes took 5 hours to play. Absolutely horrible but restaurant food and service very good.
Awful experience
The starter is rude and condescending. The course is a poor layout and the valley course is 4 par three's, all in terrible condition.
Not worth the time with so many other nice courses in the area, but if you are desperate, you can always get a tee time.
Great weather - super fun
I played this past Saturday with 3 lads I never met before. We played 18 holes in about 4 hours and fun was had by all. The tee boxes were in very good condition as was the rest of the course.
The staff was extremely friendly from the gentleman who was working the Pro Shop to the ladies who sold bevs and hot dogs and the young man who cleaned the carts! Excellent customer service. I will be back very soon!!
My Favorite Course in NJ
Truly you can't beat the value and conditions of this course. Starting with check in, the people are amazing. The starter is great and don't miss the chance to say hi to Noah, the beautiful course mascot that checks everyone out. Wildlife galore, beautiful views and some serious water make this a five star course.... Three 9 hole courses that are all completely different giving lots of variation to your game. Valley is my favorite 9 but extremely challenging. Take your phone so you can capture some great pictures. We have played here at lest twice a month this past year and I've never been let down. Okay, one issue... I wish the tee boxes were a little flatter.
Pretty Setting
Enjoyed my round. Was teamed up with a foursome and pace of play was right on target. I shot an 88 so this is now my new favorite course!
Lake/Club
There are 3 nine hole courses. I like Lake and Club the best. Fun to play and good conditions although the greens were a little bumpy today. My favorite was the #5 on the Club, par 5, with water protecting the green short right.
Farmstead
Played the Lakeview and and Clubview courses (9 holes each). There is a fair amount of water and the rough is of a length that will appropriately cost strokes if shots are not in the fairway. Greens are challenging and fast. Each hole has some unique aspect that makes the courses very interesting.
Excellent restaurant. Staff was very helpful and pleasant. No practice range but the practice green was the same speed as the course greens.
Fantastic all the way around
Great course all the way around. From the staff to the tee boxes, fairways, rough, and greens. Everything is birdie golf or better at Farmstead. Great bar with awesome beers on tap and bottled with great food to keep you from getting hungry on the back 9. Can't wait to play again!
