Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Valleyview/Lakeview Course
About
The Valleyview nine is the most difficult course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, which is located in northwest New Jersey approximately one hour from New York City. Small greens, tree-lined fairways, hilly terrain and out of bounds on seven of nine holes are among the reasons the Valleyview nine is a test. The Byron Phoebus design opened in 1979.

Don’t play if you can’t pick your 18
Farmstead is a very good value for money course. That out of the way, they have an 18 hole course (lake/club) and a 9 hole course (valley). It seems that they are putting golf now customers on a 18 layout mixing valley in there when it is not mentioned. Valley is poorly maintained and lacks a good layout that the other 9’s have. Teeboxes were really bad on all 9’s this year and overall maintenance has seemed to decline from previous years. Post what 18 will be active for the day.
Course was in excellent shape, friendly staff, one of our favorite courses in the area. Fast, excellent greens, very playable. My wife and I played as a twosome behind a foursome on the front nine taking 2 hours 15 minutes the standard time for the pace of play. After the front nine a very slow foursome of men appeared on on the 10th hole and as a twosome they would not allow us to play through. We don't know where they came from. So after an hour to play 3 holes we skipped a hole and enjoyed the rest of our round finishing 17 holes in 4 hours.
Great course
One of our regular courses, Farmstead was in great condition. Greens, fairways, tees were excellent. Can't beat it for the money
A treat of a course.
Farmstead is a gorgeous 27 hole course in Sussex county.
Amazing views from lake/club 18. Valley 9 can be challenging. Staff is alway friendly and you really experience a family operation at work. Nice practice putting green and chipping area. Best price in the area for a round of golf, course is always well maintained. Greens were rolling pure. Food at the turn was great we got some burgers, dogs and beers, great prices as well. Pace of play was a little slow due the group 2 ahead, not the courses fault as they really stress a 2 hour 15 minute pace for 9 holes. Great overall round!! A MUST PLAY!
Great course.
Farmstead is a great course. Great conditions on tees fairways, greens. Highly recommended
great day
great course - beautiful condition - lots of wildlife - excellent 19th hole and dinner - highly recommended
Diamond in the roughh
Played with a really nice lady and the golf course was well maintained....greens were a little challenging but overall beautiful course
Don't golf here
I used to love Farmstead, but they are absolutely horrible with staggering tee times. The rate of play is that of a dead slug, the second the group in front is off the tee box they send you out to sit behind 20 other groups. Took at least 6 hours to play, also, they allow walkers after 2pm so the pace is even worse then. It's a shame because the layout and conditions are usually fantastic, but it makes no difference when you're waiting 15-20 minutes between holes. I won't be going back here.
Not Impressed
First time playing the course and thought it was about average. The holes were either straight forward or challenging dog legs. Some of the tee boxes were in bad condition so much so that it was difficult to get the tee in the ground. The fairways were in good condition. Greens have improved over the years to my understanding but some were so littered with debris, it made putting virtually impossible. Would play again but not for $35.
Great value, good conditions
27 hole course. The Valley nine is immaculate because it is quite difficult! No warm up range but there is a practice putting green. Fun course
We played in just over four hours, and even got out a bit earlier as a single. Course was in great shape but could have used a mow in some spots. I like this course if pace of play is decent.
EARLY IN THE SEASON AT FARMSTEAD
WITH ALL THE SNOW AND RAIN WE HAD FOR THE LAST MONTH THE COURSE WAS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION, SOME WET SPOTS BUT OVER ALL YOU CAN NOT COMPLAIN.
Great condition - great value
I have played this course many times. Usually at this time of year courses in this region are littered with tree leaves. This was not the case here. The course was immaculate - no leaves - greens rolled perfectly - excellent day of golf. Kudos to the ground crew and staff.
Nice Course
I do not know how they do it but the fairways are always lush - grass sticks straight up and dense. Real nice. Somewhat easy course. I like playing here.

Dear rangr514,
I am sorry you were unhappy with your golfing experience on 10/6. Please be aware that when you buy a “Hot Deal” from Golf Now, the golf club where you will play has no involvement or control over those tee times. Golf courses provide Golf Now with Tee times in exchange for the use of their GolfNow system, but then those tee times (prices and location) are fully controlled by Golf Now. We did just submit a request to GolfNow to include the location of the course when they advertise their “Hot Deals”. I was surprised by your criticism of our golf course….We put a lot of work into and take a lot of pride in the maintenance Farmstead Golf & Country Club and normally receive excellent reviews. We encourage you to visit our website at www.farmsteadgolf.com where all of our tee times indicate date, time, and course rotation….I am confident you will enjoy your experience and surroundings.
