Farmstead Golf & Country Club - Clubview/Valleyview Course
About
The Clubview nine, which opened in 1963, is the original course at the 27-hole Farmstead Golf & Country Club, located in northwest New Jersey, approximately one hour from New York City. Offering a traditional mix of par 3s, par 4s and par 5s, accuracy is key on the Byron Phoebus-designed course. The Clubview nine closes with two very demanding holes, the long par-4 eighth, with an approach shot over water, and the par-3 ninth, which is surrounded by water.

After two days of rain COURSE IN TOP SHAPE
Expected sloppy conditions due to the previous two days of rain. Found that the greens were is top shape along with the rest of the course. This is a top five public course in NJ, worth the distance in travel every time.
Pretty basic northern Jersey course.
Played on a Saturday around noon. The course is in decent but not great shape. It has 3 nines. We played Lake/Club. It has a few challenging holes on the front where you have to be careful of how far you hit off the tee but then is fairly open for the rest. There are several short holes that you can try to get close to and score but you need to be aware of several creeks and ponds that are sometimes not visible from the tees. Pace of play pretty good for a public coarse on a Saturday.
Great layout! Great course! Great staff!
I joined a twosome for this outing and the weather was just perfect. The course conditions were excellent and the pace of play was just fine. The greens were in top shape though difficult to read from early morning to the late morning as they began to dry and become a bit firmer. I played Club to Lake on a previous outing and played Club to Valley for this outing. I was surprised at how challenging the Valley 9 was despite comments from others I encountered at the course. The staff was most cordial and I appreciated the focused coordination the starter exhibited to keep golfers timed for their tee offs. Overall I enjoyed another great experience at this hidden treasure in Lafayette, NJ. I look forward to my next opportunity.
Keep coming back
I have played this course several times over the last year and I enjoy playing it everytime. Always in great condition, challenging but not so much that it is disenchanting, and everybody is really friendly and courteous. Compared to the rest of the courses in the area, it is a great price for the experience.
Course is difficult enough to be challenging but forgiving enough to be fun.
They need to space out the tee times a little more on weekends. We had to wait at almost every tee box. There are no rangers on the course to enforce the pace of play.
this course offers a good challange
there are great challanges such as water holes tough greens nice tree lined fairways, some straight shots ,90 degree angles,,,long greens,,,small greens,,,all at a reasonable price
Magnificent Course
I played Lake to Club, and was so impressed with the course. This is a beautiful place, so well groomed and taken care of. This was 40 minute ride for me to get there, and I absolutely can't wait to get back there again. Very playable course. Some of the par 5's are long, but certainly can make par on them. Not too many hills to work with. Loved everything about this course. Looking forward to returning again sometime soon. I'd recommend this course to anyone looking to play.
Course is in pristine condition.
While most local courses are showing many sign of last years stroms (debris, leaves, downed trees) Farmstead is in great shape. Tee boxes, fairways (rough too) and greens are in great shape!
course is beautiful and very well maintained
great course. beautiful and staff fantastic. good location and great facilities
Decent track, but lacks variety
Maintained pretty well and the greens were rolling well for this time of year, but they weren't holding anything. Playing from the Blues (tips), they have a few tee shots with overhanging trees that are a bit unfair and maybe just lazy course management. Overall though, it's a good experience, but it's too bad they won't let you walk before 2 on a very walkable course.
nice layout with a mix of challenging holes
I enjoy playing this course. Just the right amount of variation to require using every club in the bag. A few short par fours that allow you to hit iron off the tee. The strategically placed water hazards require accurate shot making on several holes.
Played early this season on winter greens but they rolled ok, my putting was horrible. I wish could blame the greens for missing at least 5 10ft birdie putts but I can't.
staff very kind, course beautiful, challenging
It is my first time playing there. I feel very comfortable. Staff is very kind and polite. Course is beautiful .
Excellant
This course was in PERFECT shape.........leaves were being blown from the fairways all morning. The pace was very good.
I will play Farmstead again..........i recommend this course!
This course has a nice variety of holes.
The course is always in great shape and I would put it up against
any of the other top public courses in the state.
Very playable course
3 9 hole courses with pretty views and friendly fairways.
Food in restaurant also good. Halfway house has quick snack or lunch.
great course...great condition....very nice design.
greens are always in great shape. The course is a very nice design...great value. Fairways always nice....worth playing!
Greens were sandy and tee boxes a mess
The greens had been aerated but the loose sand was awful. The tee boxes were not mowed and did not provide an even lie. We played 9 holes in 3 hours and went to the seldom used Valley course just to get our 18 holes in.
