Overall course condition
For this time of yr in NJ Lakewood is in good shape . Most of the fairways are in very good shape. a few of the greens were a little rough . If the staff can get the fishers out of the greens this course will be tops .
Lakewood CC
Early season round. No issues today with speed of play.
Greens are the difficult part of this course and were in good shape. The majority of holes are straight away with plenty of fairway and rough. Fairways seem like they will be good come spring, however don't expect much rough. Very spotty especially around the greens.
Bunkers were good, some seem out of place.
Good track if you are looking to tune up your game. No wow factor.
The three I was supposed to play with......
I like Lakewood a lot. I probably play there 5 to 6 times a year. Sometimes more. This was the first time I've ever been left behind by the 3 other golfers during the 11:10 am tee time. I get some guys want to play alone but maybe someone should give the 4th a heads up. Rude group of guys. Prob rudest I've ever come across at a course. Not even the common decency to say something. Starter seemed like he knew the guys and said they were all right. Guess not. Guys jumped out 10 min before the tee time. It'll be a bit before I'm over there again.

Always polite staff and kept in good condition. This time of the year is tough and the boxes and greens were still in great shape.
Lakewood never disappoints
Was booked at hanover, but had to cancel cuz walkers only due to rain last night. Lakewood allowed carts, it wasn’t that wet, just obey signs where not to go. They doing a good job at Lakewood.
Great old public course
Golfed here for the first time on a cold/windy Sunday morning in November. The course was in very good shape considering how dry it's been and then it got very cold. Definitely some dirt patches in the rough. Round was cheap and included a cart and a cup of soup from the nice bar/restaurant on the property.
Pace of play was slower, but not unacceptable. Starter, cart guy, and clubhouse staff were were super nice and accommodating. Not stuffy at all. Range looked good although I didn't use it (too cold)
Course layout was interesting. 12 has a very elevated green and 16 is basically a horseshoe Par 5. Fun shot making is required. Greens were pretty quick and well kept. I definitely want to come back in the late spring/early summer when everything grows back. Fall golf is a bonus, but I still get annoyed at losing balls in leaves.
Carts were older and gas. I personally hate gas carts because they're slow and loud. I get how expensive they are to replace though.
Halfway house between 9/10 was well stocked with food and drinks, but is CASH ONLY. I get fees and such, but you should be accepting cards in 2024. You're costing yourself money. I ended up not buying anything as I wanted to buy for the group and only had $20 with me.
I'll definitely be back at some point. If it was closer, I'd play it more often.
