Lakewood never disappoints
Was booked at hanover, but had to cancel cuz walkers only due to rain last night. Lakewood allowed carts, it wasn’t that wet, just obey signs where not to go. They doing a good job at Lakewood.
Great old public course
Golfed here for the first time on a cold/windy Sunday morning in November. The course was in very good shape considering how dry it's been and then it got very cold. Definitely some dirt patches in the rough. Round was cheap and included a cart and a cup of soup from the nice bar/restaurant on the property.
Pace of play was slower, but not unacceptable. Starter, cart guy, and clubhouse staff were were super nice and accommodating. Not stuffy at all. Range looked good although I didn't use it (too cold)
Course layout was interesting. 12 has a very elevated green and 16 is basically a horseshoe Par 5. Fun shot making is required. Greens were pretty quick and well kept. I definitely want to come back in the late spring/early summer when everything grows back. Fall golf is a bonus, but I still get annoyed at losing balls in leaves.
Carts were older and gas. I personally hate gas carts because they're slow and loud. I get how expensive they are to replace though.
Halfway house between 9/10 was well stocked with food and drinks, but is CASH ONLY. I get fees and such, but you should be accepting cards in 2024. You're costing yourself money. I ended up not buying anything as I wanted to buy for the group and only had $20 with me.
I'll definitely be back at some point. If it was closer, I'd play it more often.
Great course
The course is in great shape. The group ahead was a little slow but let us through when we asked.
Great prices + soup
Great conditions and fun course, only issue slow people in front should have let us pass as no one was ahead of them.
Great course!
Course is in great condition from tee to green. Staff members are always friendly. Unfortunately, round was cut short by the wildfire, but we were provided with a rain check, and will be heading back soon.
Hard as a rock
Everything on this course is hard as a rock including the tees, fairways, and greens. Could not hold a green with any approach shot, even a wedge would roll off the back. Strangely half of the greens putted like pavement, the other half did not...so putting was very challenging...you didn't know which it was going to be until you hit your putt.
Course is in great condition
Lakewood may have a bad rep, but the course is great. Tee boxes are pristine, fairways in good shape and most of the greens are challenging, 2 greens have some wet area that never seem to be right. Halfway house has good and beverages . Maggies is a bonus for after your round. Lakewood can be a nightmare to drive around. Saturdays are usually the best day as there is little to no cars on the road.
Course okay
Very difficult to great there with traffic and construction. Club house was really primitive. Staff was nice. When we checked in, we were told we could get a better rate if we called the course directly. Frustrating! There are so many better options nearby.
Improved course conditions
The course is in great shape from the last time I played there over a year ago. We had a great round.
