pleasant surprise
A golf buddy said he'd heard about this course and wanted to try it,so we did on a Monday afternoon. We were very happy with the course overall- greens were in nice shape as well as the rest of the grass. Things seem to be kept well- fairways and roughs trimmed well and no trimmings evident. Website describes tight fairways, but, front 9 was more forgiving than expected. Overall, very nice and look forward to returning.
Quite a challenge
Don't let the first few holes lull you into a false sense of security. This course will give you all you can handle! It's gets progressively more difficult the further you go and once you hit the 8th hole you need all your golf acquity in order to shoot your score.
Beware the extremely difficult 11th with a pinpoint drive needed in order to have a shot at the green. The 15th & 16th holes (par 4s) have a high potential for disaster.
A really cool feature of the course is back to back par 5s on each nine. Conditioning is good and greens are tricky.
Decent course for the money
Decent, but don't be fooled by the previous Private course status, it's a moderately nice public course. Playing from the middle tees is closer to playing from the front tees than I would prefer, so don't immediately jump to the white tees without taking a look at the scorecard yardages to get a good idea of how long of a course you want to play.
I lost a wedge there and wanted someone in the pro shop to take my # in case it got returned, and they told me to just call back the next day instead. That was disappointing, but no one was rude or anything.
its a fun course to play
for the money it was a real bargain. I loved the course enjoyed my day of golf. plan to play again aug,8.
lots of trees
the greens for the most part were fairly small, smooth, and flat and at the current time seem to be in great shape(I don't know the "norm" for this course though) . the tee box like most courses this time of year seem to have heavy use and many divots.. . I do agree with previous reviewers that this course has some quirky holes(in a good way)..cant remember what number hole but it had a big tree dead center fairway 75-100 yards out from the teebox. many holes on this course favor a draw and most are tightly tree lined. as many others have stated if you are like me and hit a long iron well you will enjoy this course.
Starting to slip
Played course a couple times in past few months with conditions going downhill a little bit each time. The greens are good, the fairways are just average BUT the Tee Box areas have really gone down to bad. Like the course. Like the layout and value. Also had very slow group in front of my group that factored in to the negative experience
Jim K
Staff outstanding, no room off tees if you do not hit absolutely straight, if u hit a draw or fade off the tee there is little room for error. Need to,open up the tee areas a little. Most greens in good shape , but tees and fairways need some work
Just ok
Greens in bad shape lots if rough spots on the course , with some many places to play in our area this was just average
Great for low price and pace of play
Conditions were great with the exception of the bunkers and some tee boxes. The bunkers were not maintained at all and were like trying to hit off the beach. Other than that the conditions were great and would definitely play again. Not extremely challenging, a good midweek course to get a round in.
RUNNING ON A SHOESTRING ?
ONLY ENCOUNTERED 2 EMPLOYEES ; PRO-SHOP ATTENDEE & THE BARPERSON. NO BAG-DROP/ CART PERSON, NO STARTER, NO RANGER, NO BEVERAGE-CART, AND ONLY 1 WATER COOLER( ON HOLE # 40).MAINTIENCE SEEMED TO BE LIMITED TO FAIRWAYS & GREENS (WHICH WERE VERY GOOD). COURSE IS VERY FLAT, NO HIDDEN OR BLIND HAZZARDS, CLEAR SHOT SELECTIONS.
Good value, could've been a quicker round
First time playing this course, but as a local I'd definitely come back. The greens were in great condition, but the fairways could have been better. Looks like the majority of players seem to forget about fixing their divots, but pitch marks were repaired nicely, for the most part. Rough was cut nicely. Not as "links-ish" as I would have expected.
Got bottle necked on the front 9, back 9 played considerably quicker. Still 4.5 hours riding. Saw too deer, a few woodchucks and a wild turkey. Pretty awesome course for the nature.
Layout nice but..
The track has a good layout but the maintenance on the course is terrible, no sand in bunkers, bunkers have not been racked in months, cart path ruff ride..The staff are very good and professional..
Great Layout
The course has a great layout, well groomed fairways and greens. However, the sand traps are a highlight of the course, yet they are more like concrete bunkers and not have not been touched this season. The pace of play was extremely slow, there are no marshalls on Monday's.
Not bad at all!!!
Overall, I think that this was a good track. Even though its a relatively short course, It gives one the ability to use all the clubs in the bag. All the greens have some sort of form to them meaning they are not flat which makes for some fun putting. greens were not fast, average pace but in pretty good shape. you will enjoy the shot values into the green much better with play from the fairway. better players will find plenty of opportunities to play shots from both directions.
Ideally Situated
This course was ideally situated. The paths from hole to hole lead you through the woods. The view and atmosphere are terrific. Certainly a worthwhile course to try.
Good value on Hot Deal
Course was drier than anticipated since major rain day prior to our play. Was in decent shape although the greens were on the slow side and the bunkers need some serious sand and attention. We discovered our sand canisters were empty after attempting to use them on the first hole. Only staff we saw were in the shop and they were very welcoming. Not overly long, but good placement golf should equate to a solid score.
Would not go back to this course.
The course is recently allowing the public to play with members. This is my second time here and got the same feeling both times that the members are not happy with the public playing their course. Between the members and certain staff members (not all), they are very rude.
Nothing But Value Golf
The price is unbeatable for 18 and a cart especially on GolfNow. Course is in good shape. Greens not excellent but not terrible. Fairways were average. Holes were not really that difficult. One good drive on the par 4s was a 100 some yard wedge to the green. The only complaint would have to be that the bunkers were in terrible condition. Rock hard sand with rakes from the dollar store. Must fun part of the course would be the cart paths were through the woods and it was a fun ride to each hole. Good course for the value and fun to get some practice in.
Links Virgin
This was the first time I played The Links. The fairways are in very good condition, the Pro Shop not so much. Fairways and greens are well maintained. The cart paths are a bit rough. The waste area bunkers should improve as the weather dries out. It would be nice to see the green-side bunkers groomed and refreshed with softer sand - very hard to play out of in current conditions. As I have seen written, the course presents a fun challenge with several blind dog-legs that after knowing the course, will help with club selection off the tee. I did not go into the bar or restaurant on this trip, but will in the future.
Fun course, great staff, could be maintained better.
The course was a lot of fun. Super tight tree lines with the importance on the first shot; not only an emphasis to hit the fairway but to make sure you're on the appropriate side of the fairway for an approach. It made me hit a lot of different types of shots, 4 iron to 7 iron, 7 iron to 4 iron, etc; not just driver iron, driver iron...
It was not maintained well though. The fairways were in better then "good" shape, the rough was fairly lush, but the sand and cart paths were terrible.
