Better than rating
Walked 9 holes with $ 30. The course was not too difficult and it was good to walk even without a push cart. It provides the golf range for practice or warm up and clean restroom.
With some work, this could be very good
I have played at East Orange about ten times and I always enjoy my rounds there. The course is pretty well taken care of, greens are in good shape, tee boxes could use a little work, but are fine. Really, just a couple complaints. NONE of their ball washers have anything but dust in them and there is no water cooler anywhere on the course. Something so easy to do, yet they don't do it. But overall, a good experience
Nice course everybody working there was courteous but pace of play was slow
Verry nice
Course was beautiful and a lot nice than expected. A little too many woods, but should be no problem if you hit the ball straight
A tale of two tee times
This was the second time I played East Orange this year. First I played this year I was pleasantly surprised. The condition of the course was the best I seen in years. Greens were perfect and tee were in great shape.
Not this time around greens had crab grass patches and I don’t know what was growing on tee boxes but it wasn’t grass. Pace of play was ridiculous.
Serviceable Municipal Course
A short basic public course with decent greens ansd fairways. Tee boxes, bunkers, and rough, need work.. Course is a good value for novice or high handicap golfers that didn't require a challenge. Practice facilities are very good. Hospitality facilities are good.
Course in very good shape!
Always enjoy this course. True greens, well maintained, and very friendly staff at check in and starter. Hit this course 5-8 times a year.
Based on reviews I thought course would be slow with a really basic layout and chewed up greens. I had the opposite experience. Pace of play was fine; the course is open but challenging, with dog legs, a long par 3 and a couple deceptively difficult par 4s; and I thought the greens and fairways were in good condition. My only complaint is the lack of water jugs on the course. Really could have used a refill today…it was hot! But had a great time and will be back.
Once my home course.....
...Now a last resort.
My memory of EOGC before the renovations is much fonder than those memories made since then. While T-times are often available so access is pretty good, the fact that T-times are so often available should be a red flag.
Allowing 5-somes on the course with 5 players on 3 carts was the last straw. When the course was informed of a group going out in that configuration someone went to talk to them. And apparently said "have a great round" as opposed to more appropriate "Sorry we don't allow 5 player groups. You will have to split up or exit the course."
And course conditions over the last 18 months have been about as consistent as all the 'what I want to be when I grow up" from a 13 year old.
If this seems harsh, it is. And I"m sorry it is. Because of the proximity and ease of layout it was a go to place to play a spontaneous round. Not so much the case now. Not with so many other really good courses in the area.
SLOW PLAY
The was no starter or ranger on the course. When I got to the course for my scheduled tee time there were 2 foursomes in front of me. It didn’t get any better either. The front 9 TOOK 3 HOURS!!!
When we got the 10th tee box it was like everyone in front of us only played 9 holes. We played the back 9 with NO delays or waiting.
