A gem of Upstate New York
My girlfriend and I have been wanting to play here for a while but have not had a chance up until now,...and we are SO GLAD we went !
Right from the start when we arrived, the Staff was extremely friendly and helpful, which guaranteed we would definitely come back again. The facility is well maintained and everything is in great condition for the Fall season in Upstate New York. We were not pressured at all and was able to take our time and enjoy our day on the course.
The course itself is Fantastic. I am not a long driver anyway compared to most but even with that I learned quickly that the Driver is Not the best option on the majority of this course. With that being said, if your a guy who can drive a ball 300 plus yards, you may consider putting the cover on that one when you go here. This course is truly a thinking man's place, which favor's the Smart golfer who is willing to layup and use strategy instead of brute muscle.
There are plenty of challenging holes in store for you to include many dogleg's and dangers along the way. Like I stated above, you need to think on this course in order to be rewarded so precision is a must !
I would definitely recommend this course to anyone looking for a challenge or who simply want's to spend a day among the beauty of the Adirondack Mountains.
Beautiful scenery.
The layout needs improvement. Lots of sharp doglegs with trees overhanging the very narrow fairways. The greens are severely sloped but in good shape. Be prepared with your A game. Target golf.
Nice alternative to the high $$ courses
First time at course and no trouble finding it from Saratoga as signs are posted directing you to the course. Pro-shop staff were very friendly and we were allowed to start as soon as we were ready. Great scorecard with course layout, individual holes, and helpful info regarding distances on the many doglegs. Course is tree-lined, fairways in pretty good shape, and the greens rolled true but a few did have some very bumpy areas. It's not fancy, it's not pristine and it's not a bombers course but it is a good course and it's fun (and not too expensive!).
Vastly improved course
Very pleasantly surprised. My friends and I played this course several years ago. It was in terrible condition at that time. I was back in the area and decided to play here to see what the conditions were like. It was almost a different course. MUCH BETTER. The greens were in good shape and the fairways were pretty green. Last time there was more bare spots than grass. Now it is a respectable course. There were some holes were the course was doing some work. But, that is fine. That means they are trying to improve the course. I was very pleased with the improvements.
There are a lot of doglegs and twists and turns so you need to place your shots. There are a few holes where you might need your driver. (Depending on how big of a hitter you are.)
I would play here again. I will try to convince my friends who have vowed off this course after the last time to give it another try. I had a very good time.
You cannot book a tee time as a single. I called and asked if they could fit me in. The pro shop said that they could and would try to pair me up with a group. However, when I arrived there wasn't any groups ready to go. Instead of pushing me out and making me wait endlessly the Pro shop let me go out alone. I blazed through several holes before catching anyone. I had to wait every hole after that. (You have to expect that playing alone with a cart.) At the 10th hole I was met by a threesome who asked to join me. Fine by me. They were nice. I started to think that the round was taking too long until I checked my time. I was on schedule for a 4 hour round. It only seemed slower since I was playing by myself previously. We did finish right about the 4 hour mark from my start time.
Overall, this was a very good experience. Great improvements. to the course.
Jersey boys golfing
We come up a lot in the summer from Jersey and we always play Brookhaven at least 10 times a year. Nice staff and friendly locals. Give this course a try .
staff is questionable
Had difficulty booking the time via golfnow. Called the course twice to straighten out. Called golfnow and finally got the time (golfnow called the course to confirm available t time as well). Arrived at course and found a packed parking lot. Went in to take care of business and inquired as to the crowd. Tourney going on. No one seemed to think this was important when booking the time (remember I called the course twice regarding this time). I asked the "pro" behind the desk if this was going to be a problem. He responded by saying "not for me, I'm not playing". Ah.........nothing like a 5 1/2 hour round....joy.
Quirky Little Charmer
Beloved by locals and in-the-know Adirondack vacationers, this shotmaker's gem is everything that it's posh Saratoga Springs competition is not - fun, fast and friendly, plus dirt cheap at off-peak times.
If you hit it 250-plus, leave your driver at home unless you can pipe it consistently, or save it to blast away at the 300-yard par 4 12th, where a narrow opening to a steeply sloped green is irresistible to big boppers on the elevated tee. Elsewhere, thick pine stands along nearly every fairway and lots of doglegs give the careful, thinking player a chance . Greens, while sparse, have improved dramatically in recent years.
Overall, it's a fun place to play if you're looking for a course that rewards good iron play and lag putting.
Course conditions are what you would expect of an Average Joe's mountain hideaway course, but the clubhouse food is great and abundant. Best sweet potato fries ever.
