Dogwood/Oak Tree at Middle Island Country Club

About
Middle Island Country Club sits almost at the center of Long Island and has been one of the area's most popular public golf courses since first opening in 1965. The 27-hole course is divided into three nines that are played in different 18-hole combinations. The entire layout was carefully carved from 225 acres of the Lustengarten Nursery. Middle Island's Dogwood/Oak combination features narrow fairways lined with trees. The greens on the front nine are the most challenging of any of the three nines. They have subtle breaks that leave many golfers wondering how they "just missed" it. The Oak nine is almost as tough, but you will get a slight break. It requires careful course management since there are many doglegs that can make it play longer than what's indicated on the scorecard.

excellent shape
really a challenging course, nice layout.greens are plush ,but not fast.lots of shade if you need to hide from the sun at the tee box.
Ballparks / pace of play issues
Overall decent experience. Finding more and more courses on the Island having ball
mark repair issues with golfers. Way to many on several greens. It should be considered a privilege to repair a mark you made from sticking a green. Also, as with many public courses we came to a screeching halt with a foust e in front of us playing from the whites, hitting ten yards past the golds on every hole. We had to ask to pass it was so painful. Hard to control that I know. But it is a nice course and people should respect Golf etiquette more and we would all enjoy it to the fullest no matter the skill level.
Make Sure You Have Plenty of Time
Course was in good condition. Pace of play was terrible. Over 5 hours to play 18 holes.
Nice local course
First time playing the course since I’ve just gotten into the game. If you have a slice you’re going to be looking for your ball in the trees for sure. Everything is tree line. The grounds are well kept and the staff is friendly.
Best round ever
I enjoyed my best round of golf from a performance standpoint as well as from a pace standpoint.
Ehhhh
This is a value round of golf. It’s cheap. But what you trade in cost for enjoyment wasn’t worth it for me. The group I was in was total riffraff. The level of golf competency and etiquette here was lacking to a point where I walked off at 9. I’d say “you get what you pay for”.
